SAMUEL LLOYD ALFRED DePRATI VIRGINIA GRIFFIN President Vice-President Secretary Gonzales Chapter 226C of the California Scho- larship Federation, called more simply the Honor Society, showed a slight increase in membership this year. Upperclassmen appeared to have had difficulty in achieving grades suf- ficiently high to earn the ten qualifying units for membership, so Concepcion Valadez was the only one who represented the senior class, and Sam Lloyd was the only member of the junior class in the societyg the remaining membership coming from the sophomore and freshman classes. Our financial enterprises were cake sales and a dance to raise money for our annual banquet for new members. Cn May 6, five members, Concepcion Vala- dez, Sam Lloyd, Virginia Griffin, Lorraine Ca- prara and Vivian Irvine, accompanied by our advisor and good friend, Miss South, attended the annual C.S.F. conference which was held this year in the Sequoia High School in Redwood City. On the way home, Miss South provided a UCIETV special treat by showing the members all through the beautiful Stanford University campus. The chapters social events were the lovely banquet in Salinas in May for new members, and the annual Ditch Day picnic at Paraiso Hot Springs. This year only Connie Valadez will win the coveted Life Membership Lamp pin at gradua- tion, which required six semesters of member- ship in the chapter, one of which must be in the senior year. Connie has been a member all through high school. The officers of the chapter for this year wish to leave this word of encouragement to the classes following: although it may mean some sacrifice of fun and frolic, or mean study when one would like to play, perhaps the satisfaction of achievement, of a job well done, is worth every bit of effort put into earning membership in the Honor Society: and it is hoped more of the underclassmen will consider this and set Honor Society membership as their goal.
