Rockin ' the Square One of the best of times was the 1982 Come and Take It celebration in downtown Gonzales. Student par- ticipation helped to make a success of the three-day event that commermorates the firing by cannon of the first shot of the War for Texas Independence. Friday ' s opening focused on food booths and a street dance. Several booths were operated by GHS organizations as fund-raising projects. Saturday ' s schedule was highlighted by the annual parade. GHS ' s homecoming float won first prize and the Thespian float won second prize in their division. Also attracting the attention of students were such events as the Lions Club Rodeo, the Young Farmers ' Tractor Pull, and the Chicken Flying Contest. Sunday ' s Family Day brought another day of fun and games. Those were days to remember. GHS students watch the games. Karen Nowotny shows how high she can kick.
