They had fifteen boys on the Apache football squad seven girls and three boys playing basketball and fifteen boys participating in track Twenty-five girls took part in the Orange Jackets while twenty sophs played in the band. They were also well represented in FFA FHA and the Spotlight Club. Among their projects they entered an appropriate float and a duchess in the homecoming parade. Second row: Sonny Schieberle, Buddy Schraeder, Wayne Spahn, Tootie Dupree, Frank Atkinson, Norman Roeber, and Malcolm DeBerry. With Head Coach Ralph Curtis and Assistant Coach Allen Winters at the helm, the 1953 Apache football team finished with an outstanding record of ten wins, and three losses. During the season, the team scored 315 points to their opponent's 115. The Apaches, winning the District 24-AA, played Rosebud for the bi-district title. Winning here by a score of 25-14, they advanced to the regional game, where they were defeated by the La Vega Pirates 28-0. Zaptadae gf Leading the Apaches in a fine year were Buddy Schraeder, Carl Mackey, and Sonny Schieberle, the three senior tri-captains.
