In 1914 this group of young people combined their time efforts and talents to produce Golds- boro High Schools first yearbook, the TAR- It was at this site in 1885 that Goldsboro High School had its beginning. At present these buildings and an addition erected in 1914 house the William Street Elementary School.

Charles B. Ayeock 1901-Governor of North Carolina-1904 Governors are very instrumental in the educational growth of their states. During his lifetime, Governor Aycock showed considerable interest in the development and promotion of educa- tional facilities in the state of North Carolina. Goldsboro, as well as many other communities, has benefited greatly from his high ideals and unusual foresight. Where Deeds, Make The After years of foresight and toil, outstanding men and women of this com- munity gave birth to a high school in the year 1885. As was true with many other ventures following the Civil War, progress of Goldsboro High School be- gan to flourish. There began, at this pe- riod, a slow, but progres- sive, awakening of educa- tion in the state. The present Goldsboro Senior High School building which was erected in 1927 proves to be quite an impressive picture. Since that time, however, two additions, a gymnasium and a west wing, have been added. Miss America - 1960 When Lynda Lee Mead, Miss America of 1960, visited our cam- pus last year for the Miss Golds- boro Pageant, she was given a most enthusiastic welcome by our student body. For this reason, she was cho- sen to judge our GOI-IISCA Queen competition. I4
