I am a wanderer and a mountain climber, he said to his heart, I do not like the plains, and it seems I cannot Sit Still for long. And whatever may yet come to me as destiny and experience will include some wandering and mountain climbing: in the end, one experiences only oneself. The time is gone when mere accidents could still happen to meg and what could still come to me now that was not mine already? What returns, what finally comes home to me, is My own Self and what of myself has long been in Strange lands and Scat- tered among all things and accidents. And one further thing I know: I stand before my final peak now and before that which has been saved up for me the longest. Alas, now I must face my hardest path! Alas, I have begun my loneliest walk! If I 'lf 'I 'I l Thus spoke Zarathustra and lauyied for a second time. But then he recalled his friends whom he had left: and, as if he had wronged them with his thoughts, he was angry with himself for his thoughts. And soon it happened that he who had Iaugied wept: from wrath and longing Zarathustra wept bitterly, ' -Nietzsche Well, you know the old saying . . . In San Francisco the students were partic- ularly impressed with the Hyatt House Hotel which is a mass complex of architectural art work and sculp- ture. The cultural aspects ofthe trip included musical plays and a visit to Berkley Campus where students observed art being created all over campus. During the New York trip, December 6-11, visits to Time Square, Ferry rides and attendance at ballets and plays took up most of the students' time. lm- pressive highlights included Alvan Ailley's Contem- porary Ballet and the play Don't Bother Meg I Can't Cope. The trips were sponsored by the Arts in Education program. l .Ng TW Wdeqtnm Sculpture students designed an ecology tunnel in the art resource center to make the student body at GHS more aware of their environment. Some 750 students and teachers crawled through the sculp- ture, discovering feelings and sensations that they were not aware of. The tunnel was completed in three weeks by Lee Darrigrand, Linda Mount, Don Port, Jenny Hite and Suzi Wil- liams. , VV,V,Vr 459' x Q ,434 , fin We ,Hilti ,gems we ffanmaamiwrf' 'Www' K Wide Range of Activities Charaeterizes Golden Days Golden Days climaxed with the crowning of Sue Hutchinson as car- nival queen after a week of activities. The booths at the grand finale event this year were constructed by the voc-tech. department. Centennial Singers had started the week off with a nontraditional con- cert. Other activities included the alumni banquet, the talent show lin which Flash Hayes and The Ramblers stole the showl, the box lunch sale, and the Battle-of-The-Bands. The concert proved to be a different approach from past programs at GHS. The group sang songs in different languages and from different countries. Students really took part when members of the group chose students seated on the floor to kick up their I . r heeIs to music sung by Up With People. Theres a Time and Place for Everything Valentines week this year started off with a breakfast prepared by HERO. Later in the day students were surprised with wet kisses and not- necessarily-harmonious songs spon- sored by the Valogram service of the junior class. Suckers and pictures in front of a special background were also sold and the celebration ended Saturday night with Wondershell serenading lovers. The dance was spon- sored by Centennials. xi I Q 'lux u I ix my 1 is 43 I iff is 4-is. s -f .-4 si is BE - .
