u p e r 0 I n t e n e n t s e s s a Dr. A. Glen Everhart Superintendent of Schools Congratulations on the completion of your high school program. You are approaching adulthood at a critical period in the history of the world. Your generation will surely witness unprecedented prosperity in the world to come, yet it will also witness unparalleled food and material shortages and great proverty in many parts of the world. Your generation will be part of the greatest technological expansion the world has ever known, yet it will also be plagued with energy crises, fuel depletions, and a host of complex social problems which will accompany this technological age. As the late United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Adlai Stevenson, put it, your opportunities will come to you brilliantly disguised as insurmountable problems. It will be up to you to recognize the opportunities and to seek solutions to these problems. May these words uttered by Theodore Roosevelt over half a century ago be an inspiration and a challenge to you as you enter the exciting world of adult life. . . . “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” 15
