FPBSg Foreword, Semorsam School Life Underclassmen It. Contents Curriculum Mr. Edwin R. Smalling In Dedication One can never truly evaluate the degree of dedication that any particular teacher in a school system exhibits. Glancing back over the well-trod educational path that each of us has traveled thus far, we have seen many devoted faculty members whose dedication is not merely to their jobs, but to each one of our futures. However, there is one devoted teacher, in particular, who has been an outstanding asset to the Class of 1970. His guidance, coaching, and enthusiastic personality have each extended to all of the students at GHS a strong feeling of school spirit. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we, the Class of 1970, dedi- cate our yearbook to Mr. Edwin R. Smalling— Coach. Foreword Every day at G.H.S. can be compared to a simple grain of sand. These days, or grains, ad- here to each other to form a sand castle symboli- cally encompassing the many memories of our school life, with each student being the architect who creates his own castle. At G.H.S., the many big and important events of the year often overshadow the smaller memo- ries. In the rigorous and hurried routine of a stu- dent or teacher, many times the important and yet seemingly insignificant aspects of high school life are overlooked. Therefore, we, the 1970 yearbook editors, have tried in this, your Oracle, to point out those little things that count. We have tried to capture for you in pictures the small, everyday occurrences, which taken together, make our memories at G.H.S. more meaningful. Principal's Message, The Class of 1970 is a part of one of the most idealistic generations we've ever had, the least concerned with material gain and the strong- est motivated for social change toward a more just society. As such, each individual, working together with all others, can provide the propul- sion to accomplish their goals. At the same time, it can never be overlooked that these goals are made up of smaller parts and each section must receive its own recognition. Congratulations and Good Luck, Kenneth L. Richards Principal Superintendent's Message: We are all victims of our own impulsiveness. We run headlong into living and through our impetuous actions fail to appreciate or even be aware that we are by-passing many of life's true joys. It has been said that in order to enjoy the vital force of being, man must take time to think, to play, to read, to pray, to love and be loved, to be friendly, to laugh, to work, and to give. To graduate from senior high school, you must com- plete a formal and prescribed course of study. This train- ing is designed to prepare you for either continuing edu- cation or a vocation of your choice. Hopefully, formal education in the Gloversville Schools has had a broader meaning to the members of the Class of 1970, or if not, you have missed much of what our schools have to offer: The day to day interaction with teachers and fellow stu- dents, an appreciation of truly getting to know people and the many opportunities available of giving of your- self for the benefit of others. Fortunately, it is only the very few who miss these ever important parts of a com- plete educational program, for without them, education is indeed a bland process and the individual involved passes by rewards that can never be reclaimed. ... Student interest, student activism, is meaningless without student responsi- bility. Student acceptance by adults necessitates student acceptance of responsibility. Involvement means not only self-involvement, but involvement in matters that need improvement, in the school and in the community. These are the primary goals of the Council; unfortunately, they are not easily attained and the road ahead appears neither short nor smooth. Kneeling: D. Danylak, G. Waite, B. Davis Standing: R.
