GLENWOOD HIGH In the hills of Carolina, Under skies so blue; Stands our dear old Glenwood High School Glorious to view. From the south of great McDowell, Looks she proudly down; Raised against the arch of heaven With the stars for crown. Sound the chorus, speed it onward, Thee, we ' ll never fail; Hail to thee, our Glenwood High School, Hail to thee, all hail! On a campus of eighty -six acres stands the vast plant of Glenwood School. There are four buildings, including twenty-eight classrooms, gymnasium, home economics department, science laboratory, two librar- ies, a lunchroom, and an auditorium. Occupying these classrooms and departments are 778 day students and 29 teachers and 125 night stu- dents and 11 teachers. Twelve school buses trans- port our students an average of 340 miles per day. Our school has an abundance of modem equipment valued at over $60, 000. The total evaluation of the school plant and equipment is approximately a half million dollars. Such a school is a challenge to each of us to live up to the many advantages and opportunities which it affords.

This is our beloved principal, Mr. Frank W. Howell, friend and consultant for every student who has a problem. With an uncanny ability to see through alibis and excuses, and with a ready humor for any situation, he is a combination of authority, sympathy, and inspiration. Students and teachers who go to Mr. Howell ' s office, go with a feeling that they are paying a call upon a friend, not a dictator. They respect him for his title as principal, and they admire him for his warm, human qualities. Such are the rare qualities of our principal, who never ceases to challenge us to take advantage of our opportunities for an education. We shall always remember his pet phrase; " If you want a beautiful white bungalow with red geraniums in the window, you must get an education first. "
