ophps Hustle To my In I st Place This was one of the most talented sophomore teamsfi stated Mr. Bill Graves, sophomore baseball coach. The sophomore baseball team, as of late April, was in first plat-1' with a 9-2 league record. We're keeping the winning tradition going, commented Coach Graves, Glendora still had to play. West Covina, one of their toughest opponents. Glendora had outstanding players both offensively and defensively. Pitching was a strong unit of the team. Curt Rig- gins, Duke Smith, Dave Rowe, and Chuck Wooton were all valuable to the pitching staff. Riggins was 5-0 as of late April with a earned run average below 2. He also pitched a game in 58 minutes. Dcfensively the team was led by outfielders Ron Vieth, I l and Mike Sapp and infielders Eric Baker and John Van- over. Strong batting was fulfilled by Ron Vieth, Duke Smith, Chris Abrahamson and Eric Baker. Ron Vieth was one of the more powerful batters on the team hitting two home runs in one game. Besides having a well-balanced hitting squad, the Tartans, were als.o a team of speed. Mike Reedy, Ron Vieth and Mike Sapp led the ball club in steals. 1.
