The system, which was not fixed for almost two weeks, caused the Tartans to lose precious practice time since the pool had to be emptied and another pool was not available. Even so, the GHS swimming team managed to put in three and a half hours of daily swim- ming practice when the pool was in working order. Playing against other Sierra League teams, the Tartans had the strongest win against Covina, a good team. Their toughest opponent was San Marino, the CIF champion last year in varsity and frosh-soph. Before the swimming finals, Head Coach Kane Waggoner said of San Marino, They should repeat their victory this year, too. They have a very fine teamf' Outstanding varsity swimmers this year were Bill 0'Brien, Mike Lucero, John Donaldson, seniorsg Rich Frank and Brian Merrigan, Juniors. There were no girl swimmers this year, due to the CIF ruling that girls could not participate in guy's var- sity teams if there is a varsity girls, team in the same sport. 1.
