Sophgs End Season in Second Place The sophomore basketball team, under the direction of Mr. Joe Keenly, finished the season with a 9-5 record and second place in the Sierra League. Coach Keenly, a math teacher at Sandburg Junior High School, enjoyed his first year of coaching at GHS. It was a new challenge and I enjoyed it a lot,,' commented the coach. Mr. Keenly hopes to continue to coach the sopho- more team in future years. The Tartans, with a large squad, used the strategy of wearing down their opponents by using the full court press. Offensively, the team was led by Duke Smith and Bruce Birt while defen- sively, Jim Johnson, John McCadden and Russ Pollman led the team. The Most Valuable Player was team captain Duke Smith who was an all- around player both offensively and defensively and was the team's leading scorer. 1.
