Sophgs End Season in Second Place The sophomore basketball team, under the direction of Mr. Joe Keenly, finished the season with a 9-5 record and second place in the Sierra League. Coach Keenly, a math teacher at Sandburg Junior High School, enjoyed his first year of coaching at GHS. It was a new challenge and I enjoyed it a lot,,' commented the coach. Mr. Keenly hopes to continue to coach the sopho- more team in future years. The Tartans, with a large squad, used the strategy of wearing down their opponents by using the full court press. Offensively, the team was led by Duke Smith and Bruce Birt while defen- sively, Jim Johnson, John McCadden and Russ Pollman led the team. The Most Valuable Player was team captain Duke Smith who was an all- around player both offensively and defensively and was the team's leading scorer. 1. Glendora misses the jump ball, but goes on to defeat Wilson. 2. Bruce Birt, gets ready to set up the next play for the Tartans. P124 'L will!
