mf-I A- .IY hi.- fV7s Finish as League Champs The junior varsity field hockey team, coached hy Miss Billie Oglesby, experi- enced a very successful season and finished the league in first place, despite some very tough competition. Coach Oglesby com- mented, There were many close scores, and many ties. The top three teams were only one point apart. One reason for the team's successful sea- son in the Montview League was due to a new offense, a 4-3-2-l-l spread alignment. The four members functioned as the line and the rest had defensive responsibilities. According to Coach Ogleshy, the team used a spread alignment, which is used when you have a very fast team. There were many outstanding players on the team this year according to Coach Ogleshy: senior, Lorrie Duke, tll junior, Yvonne Aguirre and sophomores Kathy Seivert and Cathy Riecio. The team improved a great deal in teamwork and communication. lim very pleased with the improvement the girls have made. They have been fun to work with - a most enjoyable group. com- mented Coach Ogleshy. i fa' , , t - e ' fm ,f-ek T 'W ta A I ,clendora Glendora V Park 0 Glendora Qlendora San Marino 0 ..aaGlendora ' xCharter Qakg if 0 6g1d0l'H' Ag, V Ch3rt 'lt5 1. h Glendora 2 Poly . yf a 0- 055 Glendora 1 Azusa ' Ora ,AZN ' .0 :- . The varsity team started the season with a new offense, the 4-3-2-1-1 spread align- ment. This defensive pattern proved unsuc- cessful because of the many illnesses and the team returned to the 5-3-2-1 standard offense and defense. This year's team had many outstanding players according to Coach Hardin. These players included: seniors Janae Askew and Jana Ferrari, co-captains Terri Mar- ceron, Chris Gatherer, and Jeanette Calceron, and juniors Wendy Black- burn, ill and Sherill Hoy. Coach Pat Hardin looks forward to next yearis field hockey season, as there will be some promising material to be found in the juniors returning next year. Varsity Field Hot lu

The written I'0f'0I'Cl was notlhc- hest. hut with 100 percent total team effort put into every game, the season was a success. , f Under the direction of Coach Ralph Chalifoux, the team used two new strategies, the shuffle offense and the 1-2-2 zone defense. Glendora's main disadvantage was height. The Tartans only had two returning lettermen. Many other teams in the league had returning lettermen as well as over-all height. Because of injuries, Glendora was unable to start the same five players every game. Jim DeViney was the most valuable player as an outstanding shooter and rebounder. Bob Bonds, Jeff Salter, Dave Miller, Kent Wollam and Kevin Sampson were all outstanding offensive players as was Darrel Hamlow on defense. This yearis basketball program had its biggest turnout as 33 players were on the sophomore team, 22 on the jayvee, and 16 on the varsity.
