fV75 Finish 5-2 in League Members of the junior varsity cross country team felt this was an inspira- tional year. The team came in fifth place with a 2-5 standing. The majority of the ll meets were held at Mt. Sac. and many of the boys received medals. Doug Smith was named Most Valu- able player on the junior varsity cross country team. flanges I-finder Varsity Team With the transfer of the sophomore runners to the sophomore team, the varsity cross country team lost the strength and ahility to pull through a successful season, lt was a very young team, the youngest team live ever hadfl stated Coach Dave Bedell. The team had only one senior runner,AJ0hn Sulli- van, who had been running on the var- sity team for three years. John was awarded the most valuable and inspira- tional runner on the team. John was also voted runner of the week two times during the season. F Sophs Experience Great Year Some outstanding runners emerged from the sophomore cross country team this year. Glen Childers and Dave Hogshead were the two best runners on the sophomore team. The team held the second best times in all of Southern California when the times were totaled. The 15 runners competed in 11 meets this year and won the Azusa Invitational and were league champs at Mt. Sac. This is the first year girls got to run separately from the boys, said Coach Dave Bedell. Most ol the meets were run on a 2 mile course up and down hills near Dalton Canyon. Hogshead broke one school record this year by running the 2 mile run in 11:09. He was voted the Most Valuable player. Bob Reagan was named the Most Improved runner. At th-e cross country banquet, held at the Ponderosa restaurant, Jim Johnson and Glen Childers received varsity letters. Los Altos and La Puente were our toughest teams this year. Five sophomores entered all league finals, commented Coach Bedell. 1. Clendora leads in home meet. 2. Marlin .lones heads for finish. 3.
