With outstanding assistance from Mr. Bob Cates, Mr. Chuck Hyatt and Mr. Gary Riley, plus team effort, the sophomores played well and beat their toughest opponent of the season, West Covina, by a score of 6-0. This year's sophomore football team has to be the best group to come through this school in many years,', said Mr. Bob Greene, head coach, about the team. This year, the team painted stars and skulls Q21 on their football helmets to indicate the number of good plays made by each player. Each member who continually accomplished his assignment was awarded accordinglyf' Coach Greene said. c'Defense received stars and hatchets, the offense received footballs and skulls, he concluded. 1. lVlany changes took place this year Tennis Faces ew hnnges on the girls, varsity tennis team. For the lirst time girls were not able to compete on the boys, tennis team due to a new CIF ruling. Because of this new rule, competition was much tougher with more powerful players than in previous years. Clendora was the only team in the league without any players from the boys' team. ' Coached by Mrs. Dorothy Hilliard for the first time, the Tartans had an overall record of 3-4 and placed fourth in the Sierra League. Lori Bevilacqua, number two sin- gles player, was the team captain and was awarded the most outstanding player at the awards banquet held on December 9 Ill. Kathy Peters, the most valuable player, played number one singles and won fourteen out of her twenty one matches. ,Ianae Askew., the number three singles player had an excellent season winning many tough competitors CZJ. The doubles teams Terri Marceron and Lisa Martin played doubles for the first time together this year and played number one throughout the sea- son. I was very pleased and proud of our team's performance.
