, A4 hi M H-IT' Kathy Reigns as 1976 Homecoming M8671 A windy breeze prevailed throughout the crowd as it anxiously awaited the crowning of the 1976 Homecoming Queen October 15, at Citrus Stadium. The five members of the Homecom- ing Court were escorted by their proud fathers down the red carpeted field, as the band played tunes from My Fair Ladyf, Tears ran down the face of Kathy Peters Q11 as she was announced and crowned the 1976 Homecoming Queen QD. The tradi- tional sword dance was performed in honor of queen Kathy immediately fol- lowed by members of the plaid Piper Drill Team, who formed an archway with their swords. Queen Kathy, hold- ing a bouquet of red roses, walked through the archway followed by her princesses lf Only you Believefi was the theme of the Homecoming Dance held in the GHS gym on Saturday night, October 16 and sponsored by the Girls Athletic League. The Whizz Kidds set the dance in motion with their sounds to rock 'n roll. Later in the evening, Queen Kathy Peters, princess Nancy Atherton, princess Janet Favero, princess Sandy Henry, and princess Kathy Kemby were announced at the dance and given a charnr 1 have never been more honored and proud in my lifef, said Queen Kathy. A sched- ule of various, planned and unplanned, activities provided a busy fall season. Last year, a new registrationsystem was devised to supposedly eliminate the many schedule changes made by students. Due to some computer foul-ups however, the administra- tion experienced a few setbacks, as the line in the Guidance Center 131 remained as long as previous years: Pep assemblies had a new twist this year. Many groups performed, such as the pep squads, drill team Q11 and band. Football players and club vice presidents led cheers to get more people involved. Charlene Underhill, AFS vice president, com- mented that, it let students know the active clubs on campusf' Over the summer, several campus oak trees were cut down because of disease. Stu- dents and administrators alike wanted to replace the lost trees. During September, donations were taken for the purchase of new oaks. The trees cost 3445.20 for two, and were planted Q71 at the beginning of October. Yearbook orders were taken at a special assembly during October. Terri Marceron Q4-J, yearbook staff member, helped take orders from eager seniors. Halloween brought the annual dress-up day, librarian Mrs. Pat Cartwright won the contest QD, and typical Halloween pranks. Students arriving at school October 29, were shocked to see a sophomore Q91 dangling from the gym roof. Seniors were responsible for the dead', underclassman. The first annual community talent show, sponsored by the Shalom Club and Choirs, sparked the gym with talent November 20. Various acts competed for the first prize of 350 and second and third place prizes. First prize was taken by Gina Matlock, senior, for a disco dance she created. John Fields, 1975-1976 ASB President, was the master of ceremonies Q51 The ,lunior Class Pancake Breakfast was held November 21, in the Newberry's store parking lot f6j. The breakfast was supposed to help raise funds for the prom. Every year Cirlis League awards the Girl-A of-the-Month service award. Key Club started something new this year, the Boy-of- the-Month. September Girl-of-the-Month was Cheryl Westlake, and the Boy-of-the Month was Mikko Talsi. October Boy-of the-Month was Stan Spooner, while Jana Ferrari was chosen Girl-of-the-Month. Lea Antonopolis was selected November Girl5 of-the-Month and John Riccio received the Boy-of-the-Month honor.
