Library, Foreign Language, And Social Studies Expand ur World s. Pat Winters is the lady students see when they walk into the library. Ms. Winters keeps the li- brary going with the help of her library aids. These students sign up for library aid when they set up their class schedules and work in the library one class period a day. The work they do is worth M1 credit per semester. Library aids do just about everything there is to do in the running of a library including working at the circulation desk, filing library cards, and shelving books. Ms. Winters says that without the help of the 18 library aids she has, the library would fall apart! Glendale High's Social Studies Department strives to pre- pare young adults for the responsibility of living in a free society and to help students to be aware of the past and how it has shaped the present. The department offers classes in world history, geography, U.S. history, government, and economics. This year the Foreign Language Department experienced an increase in enrollment which was probably due to the new college requirement of at least two years of a foreign language for admittance. GHS offers Spanish, French, and German classes in which students learn language as well as the history and the culture of the countries where the lan- guage is spoken.
