l l The Four Freshmen Freshmen hold title to Gaucho Day boots Swimming, games and fun annual highlighted activities on Gaucho Day, May 3. The Sopho- against more Class contended the first-year Gauchos in various athletic contests to determine the winner of the Victory Boots for l968. The day began with the two classes competing for points in the three-legged race, a wheel- barrow race and an inner tube war. For the survivors, a tug'of- war, an egg toss and a game of volleyball followed. Before lunch, the sophomore men took on a team of faculty members in a game of slow pitch softball. Barbequed beef, potato salad, ice cream and soda pop were served at the lunch break. A swim meet took place in the afternoon for individual compei- tion. Events included a 200 meter freestyle, a 50 meter freestyle and a 200 meter medley relay. For those who didn't care to participate in group competi- tion, facilities such as ping pong, tennis, badminton, handball and swimming were made available. At the end of the day's events, the point total established the freshmen as winners of the Vic- tory Boots. ln the evening, the Four Fresh- men were the main attraction in a concert in the GCC gymnasium Continuing Education students had arranged for the concert to coincide with Gaucho Day ac- tivities. The Freshmen presented a program which was appleasing medley of their hit recordings of the l950's and many samples of their newer album releases and newer style. Outstanding en- tertainers and verstaile musici- ans, the Four Freshmen capped a full day of fun and foolishness for all Gauchos. With final exams coming up, it was a great way to let off some steam before the final rush of papers and examinations. 'rf F ' .., 5 I sf, 5541- y . Sadie Hawkinsi Gals, Catch yer Guy was the theme of the annual Sadie Hawk- ins dance held on campus in April. The event, sponsored by the Associated Women Students, gave all women students a rare chance to ask out and even cap- ture their favorite beau. Games, such as wheelbarrow races, egg tosses, and a marrying Sam Booth were provided to add to the evening's fun. For those who got cold feet once the marri- age vows were exchanged, AWS provided a divorcing Dan Booth. To help add to the atmosphere of the evening in a typical hill- billy setting, music was pro- vided by Oat Willy And Che Drsam Kami Prizes were awarded to the couples with the best costumes. A first place for the most original corsage design was given to Linda Leonard.
