Choruses show talent Concert Choir, Bel Canto, and Master Singers students were often seen talking to Mr. Walter Lamble, head of the Music Department, or in the general vicinity of the Music Department. These three choral groups consisted of sophomores, ju- niors, and seniors, with the Master Singers containing most of the seniors. After they had been in Titan Chorus and Glee Club, students could au- dition for Master Singers. While most girls went into Concert Choir, the boys' next step was either Concert Choir or Master Singers. After a year in Concert Choir, students were again eligible to audition for Master Singers. Concert Choir consisted of 40 students, boys and girls, who each received one credit Mr. Walter Lamble, the director of Master Singers, helps the group learn a new song. for his participation in the class. In the fall the group went on two field trips to Winkle- mann Grammar School. Con- cert Choir performed in a fall choral concert, a holiday cho- rale, the Techny Festival of Music, and the Spring Spec- tacular. Bel Canto consisted of 38 girls and was the second high- est singing group at South in terms of prestige. Members went to Oakton Community College and Lions School in the fall, and in the spring, they also performed at Techny. Master Singers consisted of 56 students. They performed at a fall choral concert, a holiday choral concert, Techny Festi- val of Music, the Spring Spec- tacular, and the Holiday as- sembly, as well as other small concerts. Lamble stated, All the groups are growing. I think the kids that take music are the best kids in the building. G ee Club, Titan Chorus Introduce Freshmen To Music Department Chamber Choir, Titan Cho- rus, and Glee Club were all di- rected by Mr. Walter Lamble, instructional supervisor of the Music Department. Glee Club and Titan Chorus consisted of freshmen, and met daily during mods 17-19 tfreshman home- roomj, while Chamber Choir, a new group met every Tuesday night. Titan Chorus and Glee Club met every day and consisted of freshmen only. This is the ufirst step in the Music De- partment. In these classes, the freshmen learned how to sing scales and how to perform in front of an audience. field trip once each semester to neighboring schools or nursing homes. They also performed in a fall choral concert, a holiday choral concert, the Techny Festival of music, and along with the Chamber Choir, in the Spring Spectacular. Every student in Glee Club and Titan Chorus received one credit for two semesters in his group. ln Titan Chorus, there were 31 boys, in Glee Club, there were 81 girls, and in Chamber Choir, an extracurri- cular activity, there were 20 students. Lamble stated, The kids are really fun to direct.
