I earbook staff highlights 20th anniversar If one were to walk into the arbook office while the staff as working on the book, he Juld observe a number of ings going on. First off, as he ssed by the yearbook office, would hear the staff furious- working on the various ges. Whereas the golf group ot? I need a sophomore ndid! Could someone oofread this? What do you :an it was due yesterday? e would also see strange oking paper-layout sheets d copy sheets. These were some of the ngs the 1982 Etruscan was nprised of, in conjunction ,h five deadlines and an ad- er, Mr. Ted Heiser. 'I hate deadlines so much. elve got an average of 55 ies due per deadline, and ut one month to do them, X with the tremendous vol- ume of work that it involves, sometimes it just doesn't seem like there's an end to it. The- best part about deadlines is celebrating when you finish them! explained editor-in- chief Martha Russis. Those on staff subjected themselves to pressure from deadlines and lots of hard work for one credit and the satisfac- tion of seeing their work in print. Not only did they work during classtime, but often stu- dents had to work after school, on weekends, or during vaca- tion to finish the pages. During each deadline there are times that I think that it's not worth the hassles, but when the whole thing is over, I de- cide that I really sort of enjoy the whole bit, stated clubs editor Deanna Silver. Although many students complain about the price of the if 1 1' yearbook, it actually cost more to publish than the S12 stu- dents paid for their book. The book costed approximately 526,000 for 2,100 copies, which included printing, color pages, and other extra charges. Money from book sales was supplemented by ads and other fundraisers. The staff tried to use its funds as economically as possible without overriding its budget. One way the money was used was for additional color pages. Students requested that more color be used, so the staff in- creased the stipend for color pages. Also, the book tended towards leaving less white space on the pages and filling space with more pictures. Campus Life editor Kim Le- tavay commented, I feel that the new improvements made in the yearbook have made it more appealing to the whole student body, and its new ideas will carry through to make fu- ture yearbooks better than ever. The theme, At 20, We're The One, was chosen because it was the 20th anniversary of the school, however, the editors didn't want to center only around the anniversary, but to also get a positive point across. To emphasize the theme, the first-of-its-kind a 3-D cover, was designed. According to associate edi- tor Marlene Nicolas, Since the school is reaching a new decade of aging, I think it's ap- propriate to say that At 20, We're the Onel' shows that after 20 years, GBS is growing into an even finer educational institution. Dana Davenport and Martha Russis develop a format for the layouts in the sports section. Junior Val Colis types Junior Class names on copy sheets for the year- hook. I J' E!ruscanf65
