Variety Show features superheroes Salami, ham, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, mayonnaise, mustard, and many other ingre- dients all stacked high on French bread make up only one thing . . . a hero sandwich. Ac- cording to the Glenbrook South variety show, though, 'lA Hero is More Than a Sandwich. On Feb. 18, 19, and 20, approximately 166 students, not counting the jazz band and pro- duction crews, participated in the GBS vari- ety show, A Hero is More than a Sand- wich.'l The show, directed by Mrs. Sally Clonts, included skits, singing, and dancing. To help with the show's choreography por- tions were Mr. Brian Lynch, who teaches the Dance Company, and John Clonts. Mr. Douglas Kornelly acted as drama director. Putting the show together included many steps. First a theme had to be chosen. This was done by choosing from a list of ideas prepared two to three years ago. lt was then that the theme of superheroes was decided upon. The idea of superheroes was carried out throughout the show with songs such as The Greatest American Hero and Superman Skits also reflected the superhero theme. For example, the players staged a superhero tele- thon with stars like the Mackenzie Brothers, Johnny Carson, Tom Snyder, Superman, Ju- lia Child, and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Next came auditions which took place Jan. 5, 6, and 7. Each student who tried out for a singing and dancing part had to sing a song 42fVariety Show I.
