Overall the two teams clashed nineteen times in eighteen years. The Titans have won seven, lost eleven, and tied one against the Spartans. Up until 1971, all of the games were played at Glenbrook North's field. Of those seven games, the Titans won four and lost three. Since 1971, the location of the rival clash has alternated between the two schools each year. In the past eleven years, the teams have met twelve times. The Titans have won three, lost eight, and tied one. The annual confrontation is so strong, that many promotional things are done during the week of the game. Graffitti was written on a field house at West- brook School. There also was a stuffed dum- my resembling a Spartan hung from the un- derpass on Lake Avenue. Despite all of this preliminary emotional uplifting, fans were heartbroken from the result of the game. GBN started off with a long offensive drive down to the five-yard line, but, thanks to the Titan defense, the Spartans did not score. Although the Spartans did not score then, they did score before the half. The game con- cluded with a score of 21-0. Senior Randy Walkowiak said, I think that the Titans were beaten by three big plays. Otherwise, it would have been a close game. 1 62Qii'5'gfv'ifZ7.',fn ,-,, 1 njrfiiijiiiili ' L t i A da in the life To 2,175 teenagers in Glenview, Illi- nois, the daily routine meant waking up, getting oneself to school, attending sev- en hours of classes, and collapsing on the way home. Getting to' school to begin with wasnit all that easy, After initial prep- arations at home, one had to accurately guess what time the bus would come. Junior Shari Hartzman explained, It's a hassle. Sometimes the bus comes ear- ly and you miss it, and other times it comes late, and you end up waiting for a long time. Driving to school had its advantages, but it also had its disadvantages. One had to contend with stubborn cars, heavy traffic, and the search for a park- ing spaceg however, the Lake Avenue underpass eliminated the train problem. The monotonous belltones heard throughout the day may have been de- signed to wake sleeping students, al- though sometimes even they fail to do so. Teachers certainly didn't need them, because they were informed of the end of class by a three-second warning of rustling papers. Of course, there were breaks in the day, such as lunch and unscheduled time. Juniors and seniors had the option of leaving school through the open lunch program, but those who had not attained upperclass status or could not get a car ate in the cafeteria or brought their own lunches. Some students found creative uses for their food. They could be seen having jello slurps, eating in unison, or using the consumables as am- munition in fights. Finally, after enduring English, math, and gym, the final bell tolled at 2:45 p.m. to release students to go to jobs, do homework, or remain within the walls of South for extracurricular activities, thus ending a day of life at GBS. Seniors John Shannon, Kimon Menegas, and Lisa Kahan check out the daily bulletin in the Student Activities Office.
