nflationar The recession currently ing experienced by U.S. citi- ns has had a significant im- ct on Glenbrook South stu- nts. Many students ques- .ned felt that rising costs ve made it harder for them take part in some normal an-age pursuits. I don't have any money to anywhere so I canit do any- ing, said Karen Emerson. High school students found emselves dating a couple of nes during the week and on zekends, but while movies ld going out to eat still re- ained popular, students dn't go out as often as they ed to. 9 times dent students wallets I have to make the decision between buying a record album and a movie because they seem to cost the same. Buying an al- bum costs almost Sl5.00, and it seems that a date costs just as much, with a movie, pop- corn, and gas. It all adds up to the same price, commented senior Sean Murphy. Another aspect of inflation that was also affecting stu- dents, especially seniors, was the increasing cost for college tuition. The college costs are unbe- lievable. I don't see how people can afford it, according to senior Trudy Holeczy. Another senior, Judy Gebert, felt, Even though I work, I never seem to have enough money because of college and everyth- ing else. Jobs were almost a necessity rather than just a means of earning extra money, especial- ly to those who are continuing their education. Yet, jobs were scarce because of the increas- ing number of people in the job market. Jobs now are so hard to find. No one needs any help nowadays, and people don't want to hire and train seniors because they know you're go- ing off to college in the fall, added Holeczy. In the midst of all the rising prices, though, gasoline started a downward price slide this spring. Not long ago, Cook County residents were paying as much as 51.40-51.50 for reg- ular gas. Spring however, brought prices as low as 31.14 per gallon with predictions that they might go as low as 51.00 per gallon. What will happen in the im- mediate future is anybody's guess, but things are sure rough now, commented one GBS job seeker.
