Best season ever for boys Girls notch 6-6 conference record, qualify for sectional competition. With a season record of 9-1, the boys' golf team wound up what Coach Ralph Ganzer called, the best season overall of any of the golf teams l've coached in my 20 years of experience. The most valuable seniors in- cluded Jeff Bruckner and Rick Blesi. The most valuable junior was Chuck Leuth. The boys' team won confer- ence, tied for second in the dis- tricts, and placed first in their state sectional. At state, the team placed fifth, trailing the leader by four strokes. Ganzer commented that the whole team was made up of usu- per competitors and a super bunch of playersf' The frosh-soph level, coached by Mr. Richard Gregory, wrapped up the season with a 8-4 record. As competitors, this year's group was dedicated and hard working, said Gregory. The team took fourth place in their conference. The most valuable player award went to sophomore Jim Miller. In conclusion, Gregory commented, With a strong soph- omore nucleus, we should do well Rick Blesi watches the flight of his ball during an afternoon practice. next year, for I foresee a fine season. The girls' golf team coached by PE teacher Jan Fuller, placedthird in dis- tricts, which qualified them for state sectionals. The team turned in a season re- cord of 6-6 and a conference record of 4-3. Fuller called the team, a fine group of girls who did their best in the end of the seasonf' The most valuable varsity girl was Kristen Griesser, and the most improved was Cathy Boubel. As competitors they found what maximum effort and concentration is neces- sary when up against the best in the state, said Fuller. On the JV level the girls finished up with a 6-2 re- cord. The most valuable JV girl was Kelly Pommerenke and the most improved was Tammy Lencioni. Fuller described the team as the most supportive and enthusiastic team we've ever had. The girls officially began their season August 18th, working out for two hours a day. During the summer, wor- kouts consisted of long dis- tance running. Anne Attea, Erika Welzel, Leslie Benson, Dana Davenport, Anne Towar, and Karin Ulstrup placed 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 10th, and 12th respec- tively. In districts, the Titans placed 2nd, and in sectionals they took 3rd, which qualified them for the state meet in Peoria, Illinois. The girls did quite well as a pack and had to be especially strong to quali- fy, commented Neville. Number one runner Anne Attea, placing 31st of 198 run- ners, led the varsity to a 16th place finish in state.
