Job market opens to students GBS students are not always able to pinpoint their career choices, but if one took advan- tage ofthe DCE program tDi- versified Cooperative Educa- tionj he at least took a step towards making that decision. When a student joins the DCE program, it will be easier in the future to land a job. One student, Robin Rushing, did so and is now employed at Glen- view State Bank. DCE allows me to get on- the-job experience. I get out of school at 11:45 a.m., and there- fore it enables me to get in enough hours to be on a perma- nent, part-time program at Glenview State Bank, ex- plained Rushing. Rushing put in an average of 20 hours a week. Her main task was to help out in purchasing and clerical work. To conclude her week, she ran the switch- board. Though the DCE program may tend to be a lot of work, Rushing, for instance, was al- lowed special benefits such as two weeks paid vacation, paid holidays and sick days, a Christmas bonus, and the reim- bursements for college courses. My future plans are to work full time at the bank while taking evening courses at Oakton or any other colleges where l'm close to home. My decision to stay my first year is because my boss is cooperative and willing to help me get more experience. She's offered to train me in the computer field and help place me in a better job. If I get above-average grades in my courses, the bank will reimburse my tuition, concluded Rushing. Sophomore Jim Olsen solves a techni- cal graphics problem during drafting class. Senior Robin Rushing answers a call through the switchboard at Glenview State Bank. To celebrate the upcoming holiday season, Mr. Allen Ruter and some of his senior English students serve apple cider from a keg. Classes all over school held parties before school let out for Christmas vacation. 196fDeccmber Curriculum WW, ' .f.7 '.M. ' 'H Jessi at-or S , .1- 32 ' 1 . W .,,.W1.-if-..t.',aH ,, ,,,. , ,. ..
