I Dual roles juggle job and school For most students the sound of the 2:45 bell means the school day has ended, however, this isn't necessarily true for the entire faculty too. Some of the faculty convert from teachers to students after they leave GBS and en- ter various other schools. English teacher Mr. Tom Valentin stated, I am pres- ently involved in the adminis- trative internship program. This will eventually provide me with an administrative certificate to become a prin- cipal. Many people, especially students, might think there is a much greater advantage to being a teacher, but this isn't necessarily so in every teach- ers, eyes. Some teachers find it more enjoyable being a stu- dent, while others feel each role is equally rewarding. I enjoy being both a stu- dent and an teacher. In my opinion, a good teacher never stops learning, commented French teacher Mary Frances Crabtree. Being a student along with a teacher means double the amount of work and responsi- bilities. Aside from grading papers, making lessons plans, and composing tests, the teacher also has his or her own homework and student responsibilities. There are teachers, though, who don't find this to be a problem. Social Studies teacher Ms. Diane Jackson said, Teach- ing is an excellent career to be in if you want to continue your education. That is, if you aren't involved in coaching or sponsoring extra-curricular activities. Taking a moment from teaching, Mrs. Mary Frances Crabtree studies for her Ph.D. in Italian. fit .3 lfacult Mr. Richard Goodspeedz Science US, Chemistry 163 Ms. Yolanda Graham: Spanish Mrs. Gail Gregory: Child Development, Foods-Nu- trition Mr. Richard Gregory: Drivers' Ed Ms. Donna Hajzl: De- sign, Drawing, Textiles Mr. Brian Halpin: Ac- celerated Reading, Eng- lish 273, 451, Reading Skills, Supernatural in Literature Larry Hammerbacker: Geometry, Geometry Base Math, Modified Al- gebra Mr. Seth Harkins: Spe- cial Ed lfS, DLS Re- source Mr. Ronald Harris: Biol- ogy 163, Freshman Homeroom, Introduc- tory Physical Science 163 Miss Michelle Harvey: Health Mr. Larry Heise: Fresh- man, .Iunior Physical Education IT 176jStaff dz. r v , .5 :iq ,., ..4! , 'IT ' 111 2, . Profile: Ralph Papaleo Show biz dreams If you had to choose your career over again and you couldn't be a teacher, what would you choose? An entertainer. All Italians arc good singers, and if I could do anything, I would be an entertainer on stage with people cheering me. How do high school students of today compare with high school students when you were one? Students today seem to be much less inhibited. Students today are much less afraid to speak out, which can be both good and bad. outside classroom What are your future plans? I would eventually like to get into high school administration. I'd like to do it for the challenge it offers. What is your opinion of the stu- dent body? They're nice kids, I like them very much. They are also very respectful. As he looks over worksheets, Papaleo makes lesson plans for the following day.
