Burning the midnight oil What does one do when hefshe has a paper due in five hours and hasn't started yet? Cram. First, I get really hyper and tense. Then, I get all my books and information together and lay them around my room. After that, I bring a lot of pa- per and coffee into my room, turn my radio on, and hope for the best, commented senior Dawn Gaynor. Burning the midnight oil can have good and bad results. Some people have to do it be- cause of situations beyond their controlg others work bet- ter late at night. I stay up till about 12 doing homework on work nights, but that doesn't help much because I fall asleep in classes the next day. I get away with it, though, because I sit in the back of my classes, said John Teschky, senior. Junior Janie Kim replied, I stay up late until 11:30 p.m. if there is an English or history test the following day. It's only about an hour later than the time I go to bed usually. I have a pretty busy sched- at night is the only time I have to do homework. Other people do it because they have just as hard a schedule as I do or they just procrastinate a lot, said senior Mike Villa. Senior Abby Smith com- mented, I stay up late on oc- casion. I do it to study or watch TV. Staying up late doesn't af- fect my grades because I get my work done anyway, wheth- er or not I stay up late or finish it during free time. My grades suffer in my first couple of classes when I stay up late because I literally fall asleep the next day, com- mented Pat McGuire, senior. Debbie Bloom, sophomore, works dili- gently during a late night homework session. Freshman Jill Hartzman takes a nap after discussion ends in her English class. if Sherry Smith James Sobol Christine Solvsberg Karen Somerville David Sparks Michael Speck .
