Lack of participa- tion, lack of sufficient time, and complicated designs com- bined to make this the first year that both the juniors and seniors were disqualified from float competition. The senior float, designed primarily by Jeff Herbert and Tim Thoelecke, was technical- ly feasible on paper, but be- cause of a lack of involvement After the parade, members of the Ju- nior Class destroy their l98l class float which was disqualified. with the senior float, there was not enough help to build it. Thoelecke stated, If we had had more people involved from the beginning stages of the plans we would have been able to better organize the actual construction. The juniors too, had prob- lems. Junior Class president Harry Gottlieb also had his plans for the junior float well organized on paperg however, the juniors experienced com- plications other than lack of participation. The juniors de- signed a very intricate float with numerous moving parts which required a lot of time and effort. The five-day week- end between the two weeks al- lotted for float construction ne- cessitated several all nighters in order to get the junior and senior floats done. On the Friday night before the Homecoming parade, six sen- iors worked all through the night trying to finish their float in time for Saturday's parade. Both classes were disap- pointed when it was announced during the football game that the Junior and Senior Class floats were disqualified.
