Although the order changes every semester, one usu- ally sees the same five people in the top positions. Sometimes I dread when the semester ends because people get so competitive, although it is gratifying to know that what youive worked so hard for is fi- nally paying off, replied Anne Attea, one of the top scholars. Tim Thoelecke ranked num- ber four as of the first semester, said, 1 love when ranks come out because it pushes me to work harder to reach a higher goal. What does it mean being numbers one in one's class? Many replied that it was great for their college applications When applying to school, clasf rank counts a great deal, as doe: extra-curricular activities. Most of the students in the top 20 were involved in outside ac- tivities. Attea also commented l'All the hours put into home work didn't seem important a' the time, but it's all worth i now.
