CHAMPS As the 1978-79 soccer season came to an end, the soccer team found themselves on top of the league for the second time in three years with a record of 10-1-1 and 21- 4-1 overall. Coach Don Schlesinger now has a four year record of 56-17-4 making him quite a winning coach and making soccer the most successful sport on campus. The soccer program is also one of the most suc- cessful in the valley. As in the past, this year's success is credited to team work as reflected on opposing coaches selections for All-League players. Nine players were selected they are First Team Q forwardl Mario Cejudo, ffullhackj Victor Garcia, fhalfbacksj Chris Burruel and Mike Kollin. Second Team fforwardl Javad Mostoufi, Qhalfbackj Berto Lua ffullbacksj Ernie Laija and Kent Miller, Honorable Mention fgoa- liej Raul Madrid. As for accomplishments, the team had many. Being crowned Sierra League Cham- pion is one of them. Setting new records is an another. Some are: most goals in a season 93, most shutouts in a season 9. Individual records, Mario Cejudo's 27 goals broke the old mark by 2 and Chris Burruel's 23 assist broke it by 8. And of course reaching the C.I.F. semifinals knocking off Riverside Poly 5-0, Lompoc 4-2 and Artesia 3-1 in the process. In the semifinal game hopes were high for the 3rd rated team in C.I.F. But the team not playing their usual game were upset by physical Kennedy team 3-1. l tr- gf VAR SOCCER 85 'tffl , WJ
