Well, if you were looking it was the Wilson Wilcat Marching Band. This year's band has tried harder than any other band. With the Band-Aids in front with their new uniforms and the award winning drill team behind them, the band has taken many awards. And great? Have you ever seen the black and red trimmed in gold British styled uniforms lvery impressivel. The music they performed is out of this world. At the football games they really added a lot of entertainment, so when you see a parade, you know when the music is loud and the girls are with smiling faces, it could only be Wilson. B. Adragna, B. Under the direction of Miss Donna Hannefield, with the help of the music coordinator Cindy Kirkley, this year was indeed successful. One of the better races was Los Altos, and according to the head coach Roger French "Notre Dame vs. U.S.C. is child's play compared to Cats vs. Los Altos." In the past the Cats have created a reputation to rise for the Conquerors and that, they did, beating them 25 to 30 on Los Altos' home course. The winner of that race was Wilson's Randy Roberts along with Greg Winters picking up a third. One main problem of the team was not enough experienced runners on Varsity. With five non-lettermen, four of which were sophomores and one freshman, they tried to make an impressive showing for the school and themselves on the seven man squad. Coaches Cochran and Baker filled the 'I3 weight classes with pure studs lThey thought they were anywayl. They came back from the Montebello Tournament in November with a surprising 7th place team effort and first, second, and fourth place medals. Their first dual meet was with Rowland. Our team gave a great show, wiping the Raiders upon their own mat. We then stretched our winning streak to 5 by beating Bell Flower, Monte Vista, Gorey, and San Clemente, all by very desirable scores lWe should have ended the season therel. Then the team began losing valuable wrestlers due to deadly diseases like, "I'm too good for practice," "Let's go to the snow and break a wrist or twist a knee," "Ah my ach'in whatchamacallit," "Oh my God, somebody blew a hole in my back," and the most deadly, "What's for dinner Mom." Some of these diseases were cured by Dr. Baker but the rest were hopeless and we lost the season opener to Los Altos just in time to take a vacation break. We came back with at least 5 to lO extra pounds of top sirloin fat, good attitudes, and some of us even came back with clean clothes. Well, none of that helped because that Thursday we lost to West Covina. The following Saturday we hosted the Wilson Tournament and placed fifth as a team, but the next week we were the same old team and we lost to La Puente God, we beat Glendora and finished up losing to South Hills and Edgewood. Leading scorer was sophomore forward Gus Lua with I2 goals for the season. Kevin Moore and Mark Harris held down the catching duties. Dave Trinkle, Doug Burns, Terry Baptista, and Bob Baumer had terrific performances on the mound. The infield was led by Tim Stordahl, Al Gomez, Mark Spatz, and Albert Torres. Dave Smith, Chuck Cioleri, Jim Galbraith, backed by Peter Beattie, Angel Figeroa and Doug Millen worked hard in the outfield. Coaches Fred Long and Ernie Yarborough are pleased with the hitting ability of the team. The maior hitters are Chuck Cioleri, Al Gomez and Mark Spatz.
