UmAjpm 0Bub The members of the Varsity Club are those boys of our school who have acquired a Varsity Letter from participation in any sport. It is these boys who lead our school teams to victory. But do not think that this organization is endowed with brawn only, for as statistics show, both brains and brawn appear in the ranks of the club. These are Miss Schmitz’s girls. These girls gain the experience of leading the gym classes in their activities. Aside from acting as leaders during school time, the members have the privilege of using the gym facilities after hours. Climbing ropes, jumping on the trampoline, and playing basketball are only a few of the fun-filled activities enjoyed by the Leaders. 19

f-fOMi Coti ty The Honor Society is the most fruitful attempt in developing service, leadership, and character in our high school students. Only those sophomores, juniors and seniors who have maintained high standards of scholarship for at least four consecutive marking-periods are qualified. In addition to this, the student must also be of good moral character and have participated in at least two school activities. One of the highlights of the Honor Society program this year was the initiation ceremony. It was rather a new method of initiating new members and was quite successful. Not only did students being initiated participate, but also the parents who attended, and the Glen Cove Glee Club. The Honor Society hopes to continue the initiation ceremony as well as to further other new activities. Such proposals are not as far from realization as it seems, in view of the active part in school affairs that the Honor Society is beginning to assume. 18

A blast of trumpets, a roll of drums, and the Glen Cove High School Band, under the direction of Mr. G. Scott, begins to play. A football game or Memorial Day parade would not be complete without their sound of music. The Band has played at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. and performs each year at Jones Beach. Our Band is known all over Long Island and certainly makes our school very proud. 20
