For many years she has served as art teacher in GCHS. All of us are familiar with seeing Miss Keenan in Junior Alley. Few of us realize, however, that the credit for the success of many dances and plays is due to Miss Keenan’s efforts in supervising decorations and set designs. The class of ’62 extends a vote of thanks and appreciation to Miss Keenan and wishes her many more successful years at Glen Cove High. 5 U.u c. Beatfey ASSEStctw6 Pit vCipCtl fiAv. J. Next year, in the new building, our three top men will not have to contend with such problems as over crowded classrooms, limited extracurricular activities, and choatic lunchrooms. Our administrators are sure that, with the new facilities, the continuation of our high quality of education will be achieved with less difficulty. 7 Miss Florence Andresen Mrs. Mary Anderson English Department English Department Mr. Harry Bartcau Mr. Robert Bass Mr. Arthur Brown Citizenship Department Science Department Mathematics Department Miss Rosemary Cahill English Dept. Only those sophomores, juniors and seniors who have maintained high standards of scholarship for at least four consecutive marking-periods are qualified. In addition to this, the student must also be of good moral character and have participated in at least two school activities. One of the highlights of the Honor Society program this year was the initiation ceremony. It was rather a new method of initiating new members and was quite successful. Not only did students being initiated participate, but also the parents who attended, and the Glen Cove Glee Club. The Honor Society hopes to continue the initiation ceremony as well as to further other new activities. Such proposals are not as far from realization as it seems, in view of the active part in school affairs that the Honor Society is beginning to assume. 18 UmAjpm 0Bub The members of the Varsity Club are those boys of our school who have acquired a Varsity Letter from participation in any sport. It is these boys who lead our school teams to victory. But do not think that this organization is endowed with brawn only, for as statistics show, both brains and brawn appear in the ranks of the club. These are Miss Schmitz’s girls. These girls gain the experience of leading the gym classes in their activities. Aside from acting as leaders during school time, the members have the privilege of using the gym facilities after hours. Climbing ropes, jumping on the trampoline, and playing basketball are only a few of the fun-filled activities enjoyed by the Leaders. 19 A blast of trumpets, a roll of drums, and the Glen Cove High School Band, under the direction of Mr. G. Scott, begins to play. A football game or Memorial Day parade would not be complete without their sound of music. The Band has played at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. and performs each year at Jones Beach. Our Band is known all over Long Island and certainly makes our school very proud. 20 FIRST ROW — left to right: J. Tanaka, S. Alexander, S. Loewe SECOND ROW — left to right: S. Dost, B. Ceglia, C. If you’ve ever been to City Stadium on a Saturday afternoon, in the midst of Fall, you might have wondered who the beautiful girls on the field were. Well, they were Glen Cove’s outstanding majorettes. Each Saturday afternoon, it was a treat to watch these talented girls strut to the music of the Glen Cove High School Band. Many years from now, we will look back and think fondly of these girls who filled our Saturday afternoons with pleasure. 21 O UA C lMuS Everyone likes music and the students of Glen Cove High School are no exception. Maybe this explains the hearty reception extended to the Chorus each time it performs. Of course this may also be explained by the fine quality of this musical group. Each year the Chorus sends forth lovely sounds at the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter assemblies. W'c are sure that these programs will long be remembered by the graduates of Glen Cove High School. The members of the Chorus attend a Broadway show annually and judging from performances we’ve seen, maybe someday we’ll see a Glen Cove Chorus member on that stage. This is the cheer which has lead Glen Cove to many a victory and these are the lovely girls who have led our student body in spirited cheers, giving our boys the support needed to bring home a victorious team. This year’s varsity squad, led by captain Marge Broda, did its job well. Many new cheers were presented and we all shared the excitement of introducing what might very well become tradition. We want to thank the girls for their spirited participation and wish luck to those up and coming Junior Varsity girls. J.V. FIRST ROW — Left to right — S. Pascale, R. Goler, M. Pearlmutter, S. If you had ever wandered into room 208 during the afternoon, you might have had difficulty in understanding how any publication could be put together amidst all that confusion. But surprisingly enough it was there, in room 208, that the Tattler, our school paper, and the Profile, our Senior yearbook, were bom. Cooperation was the key word in the relationship between Profile editors Michele Reizes, Tina Zendle, and Henry Dwyer, and Tattler editors Allen Sandler and Jay Kaplan. Many times books flew, erasers sailed, and invectives were exchanged; but in spite of it all the school journals reached the students completely assembled. Deadline days were always nightmares. The noise was deafening. But taking everything into account the editors have agreed it was worth the feeling of satisfaction one experienced when the Tattler and the Profile finally “hit the stands.” 31 s E N I 0 R S c 1 E N C E C L U B FRONT ROW — left to right J. The members of the club are the proud foster parents of the French orphan, Michele, and last year raised money to send a qualified student to Paris for the summer. Through this club, the French students gain fluency as well as enjoy fun-filled and educational field trips. 33 Qpaii lv Chib Habla ustcd espaiiol? Well even if you don’t speak fluent Spanish you can have fun in the Spanish Club. Under the supervision of Mrs. Szulman, the club plans activities which center around the Spanish language, such as the dance which was held with a Latin fashion show as entertainment. The team, led by Jim Morgan and Tom Maniscalco, will go down on the books as one of the most successful in the history of the school. 39 This year’s Soccer team did quite well considering its many handicaps. Despite few players, split sessions and such, the team wound up the season with 7 wins, 5 losses, and 2 ties. One member of the team, Alex Downie, made the All-Scholastic team for Nassau County. Craig Wertheim Any afternoon in the Fall, you would have seen Mr. Barteau and the Glen Cove High School Tennis Team putting in a hard session on the courts. Though they saw many such days of practice, the boys were not fortunate enough to see many days of victory. Though this year’s team fared poorly, we are hoping that next year the team spirits and scores will be raised. C. Wertheim, J. Binin, S. Alchermes, H. Rut in spite of this, Glen Cove’s Basketball Team managed to acquire its share of victories. The boys worked hard and it eventually paid off, as was seen at the exciting Roslyn game. It is certain that Ronnie Knox’s once-in-a-lifetime shot will never be forgotten, as well as those high scores of Tom Burns. 43 Glen Cove High School gets its students out of the streets and into the alleys — Bowling Alleys. Mr. Traval-tello, for the second year in a row, has been a coach working under severe handicaps. Trying to get in as many practices a week as possible, Glen Cove has had to deal with larger more experienced clubs. Next year, however, we hope the Bowling Team will have more time to put in a good record. 44 Go! Marronc. Up and over! T. Burns S. The Class of 1962. the last class to graduate from the old high school building, has many memories to take with it. When the class entered Glen Cove High four years ago, no one knew if the future would be successful. Was it? The Seniors have proof that it was. As Freshmen, the class held the best dance in many years. The Junior class talent show brought out a great deal of hidden talent. Continuing an outstanding tradition, the football team won its third straight league championship in its 1961 season. Senior year featured the play, “Girl Crazy.” A big success, the play was typical of everything the class had done for four years.
