The School Roster Mr. J. C. Maiden, Jr., principal, and Mr. C. H. Bentley assistant principal, at work. We take our school schedules for granted! The school calendar is a proclamation out of nowhere! The planning of assemblies, assignment of rooms, ordering of equipment are automatic occurrences—or so we think! This seemingly easy stuff IS administration and is what the administrators do. ...which we dedicate to MR. WALTER R. SMITH — a man who devotedly served the Glen Cove School System for 27 years, came to Glen Cove High School in 1932 as a science teacher. His whole manner and method of teaching soon earned him the title of Prof Smith1' — a name affectionately coined by his chemistry and physics students. Turning to the path of educational administration, Mr. Smith occupied princi-palships in the junior and senior high schools, and in 1950, was named Superintendent of Schools. Although we tend to think of Mr. Smith as the man who closes the school on snowy days, all of us must be aware of his role in the shaping and administering of school policies. The class of 1959 fondly expresses its good wishes to Mr. Smith for his many years of service to the field of education; regretfully it bids him farewell, and happily it wishes him God-speed.
