The English of Arthur’s time did not neglect the knowledge of foreign countries. Here in Glen Cove, we absorb the culture of France and Spain through the efforts of the French and Spanish clubs. The damsels of Old England excelled in fine needlework. The members of the Home Economics Club try to become experts on both plain sewing and more elaborate embroidery. Minstrels often appeared at Arthur’s Court. Their songs were the only account of the noteworthy deeds of the time, while in Glen Cove High School, the PROFILE ”, preserves the memories of the highlights of the school. Knights and Ladies enjoying the gala evening. With White Christmas in the City” as the theme, the Senior Ball was presented by the Class of 1955 on December Third. The selection of the reigning couple. King Frank Galluccio and Queen Madeline Davis, proved to be the high point of the evening. The royal couple presided over the many knights and maidens who attended the Ball. To carry out the theme of the Ball, the gym was decorated with the traditional symbols of Christmas, such as Santa Claus, the Christmas tree, and snow crystals. The Senior Class and especially the Decorating Committee shall be remembered for the enjoyable evening they provided for those who attended. Ado Annie in a rambunctious mood. Laurcy and Curly in a memorable duet. To add the finishing touch to a perfect senior year, the class of 1955 chose to present “GREEN GROW THE LILACS”, on which “OKLAHOMA”, the great Broadway musical, is based. Under the capable direction of Mr. Carleton Bentley, ably assisted by Mr. Jack Lamberson, the cast was selected and put to work. The evening of March 17th arrived and by 8:15 p.m. the audience was finally seated. As the lights slowly dimmed, a great silence fell over the auditorium. The curtain ascended and the show' was on. By the applause received at the finish, it was certain that the play had been a huge success. The following night s performance even excelled that of the 17th. It is the opinion of the senior class that presenting the play was just as enjoyable as watching it. One of the highlights in Scene Three. Just as Thomas Malory immortalized the deeds and adventures of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table”, so the PROFILE records the escapades of the students during their high school years. The PROFILE staff is sub-divided into smaller staffs: literary, advertising, art, photography, transcription, and circulation. All the members of every staff work hard to make their PROFILE the best. This year the Library Club consists of fifty members each of whom must devote at least one period a week to library work. They help to check out, repair and shelve books under the direction of Miss Du Bois and Mrs. Greenberg, her assistant. The Library Club is one of the most active in the school, working whenever the Library is open. One of the club’s social functions this year was the annual initiation party where new members were inducted into the club. The other was the Book Week Tea given for the faculty by the Library Club with the cooperation of the Home Economics Club. This event held to celebrate Book Week gave the faculty a chance to become better acquainted with the Library Club members. The Alpha Society, under the able direction of Miss McNamara, faculty advisor, is the honor society of Glen Cove High School. It consists of the most outstanding knights and ladies. They are chosen on the basis of both scholarship and participation in extra-curricular activities. The highlights of the year are the orientation assembly and the dinner in June given by the faculty in honor of Alpha members. Alpha is indeed a coveted honor and award for all students who achieve its standards. More effort on the part of the students should be made to become members of this organization. Pitior iKasiiuers Minstrels provided the entertainment in King Arthur’s Court. Glen Cove High School’s Masquers Society is equivalent to the minstrels in its function. Masquers usually present several one-act plays for school assemblies and a full length production annually. This year’s play, On Borrowed Time”, starred Jack Lamberson, and was ably directed by Carlton H. Bentley, the club sponsor. Members of Masquers also like to be entertained, so the club attends a Broadway play each spring. Thespians Troupe 41, is made up of members who through activities in Masquers earn ten credits and become eligible for this active and progressive organization. Ulfypsjitana Ha tilt (ttluh An organization worthy of its high place in Camelot is the Latin Club, which is under the capable direction of Lady Shenton. The officers of the Latin Club correspond to those of the ancient Republic of Rome. To be a member of this organization, the Latin student must attain and maintain an average of 80% or better. Standing first among the activities of the Latin Club is the Roman Banquet. The Roman Banquet transports the Latin student from the Round Table of Camelot to the banquet table of ancient Rome. The methods of transportation are clothes, food and entertainment. 54 The Lai in Club is firsi with new fashions. Decorations being prepared for the annual celebration. The Eiffel Tower lives again at the Christmas party. French, the language of chivalry, which was spoken in King Arthur’s time, is still heard today in the French Club. The club meets at least once a month and the meetings are partly conducted in French. Miss Reichert’s accounts of her summer in Europe lend interest to the meetings. This year, besides repeating its successful Parisian Prom, the French (dub expanded its activities to include French pen pals. They also renewed their subscription to the Franco-American Association. The French Club offers both interest and activity to its members. 3ff r e tt r If Gay faces at the Spanish Club party. The Spanish Club members are modern day followers of King Arthur’s Spanish counterpart, HI Cid. Membership in this club makes learning the cultures of Spanishspeaking countries really interesting and exciting. Among its many activities is a trip to New York to see a Spanish play and eat in a Spanish restaurant. Another event is the annual Christmas Party which is always very enjoyable. Learning Spanish songs and looking at slides which Miss Reichert took during her recent trip to Europe, help the members to obtain a better understanding of their world neighbors. linlngy (Ulub Almost anyone who has wandered through Senior Alley at one time or another has caught a whiff of the sharp odor of formaldehyde issuing from the Biology room. In order to become a member of the Biology (dub, a student must have an average of eighty per cent. The box supper, an annual fund-raising project, helps to finance the club’s yearly trip to the Museum of Natural History. Another activity of the Club is the field trip. Interesting specimens found on the jaunts are brought back alive and are made part of the menagerie in Room 206. 58 S’ptttor riptup (Elub A new seat has been placed at the Round Table for the Senior Science (dub. Lord Mould has divided the club into special interest groups. He is doing a fine job of aiding his charges in exploring fields of science which could not be done in class, due to limited time and space. There are no scholastic qualifications. The only qualifications are that the applicant must be a Junior or Senior taking an advanced Science course and that he have and show an active interest in his field. 3Homr iErnnnmirfl Club One of the most picturesque organizations in Glen Cove High School is the band which is seen at football games, concerts, parades, and assemblies, and its annual presentation on the WHL1 radio program. The band also has a group of girls, the Majorettes, who, with their precision stepping, provide the color and beauty for the band. The Knights and Ladies of this organization, under the capable direction of Mr. George Scott, provide much entertainment for this particular Round Table. The Lord and Master. 62 Left to right: M. The Glee Club’s social activities include a trip to New York City to attend a Broadway play, a trip to Jones Beach, a Glee Club party, and some fund raising activities. The Choraleers, whose voices blend with the Glee Club, are a select group of students who possess the finest voices in the Glee Club. During the year Choraleers entertain the Rotary Club and the Parent-Teachers Association. 64 QHjnr aU?ra Practice makes perfect. Silting: Mrs. M. Gilmore. First row, left to right: B. Frigeria, N. Th? knights of Glen Cove High School participate in a variety of sporting events. In the fall, football and soccer take precedence; in the winter, basketball and bowling capture the student’s interest. During the spring the favorites are baseball, track, tennis and golf. We can always be proud of our sporting program, both for honors given to our school and for the fine sportsmanship our teams have shown. Participation in sports has developed in Glen Cove High School, chivalry, teamwork and wholesome students. GUjFprlraftrra First row, left to right: M. Kenary, H. iMoskal, Capt. M. Davis, S. Reed. The cheerleaders have caused many a disturbance in King Arthur's Court with their ninth period practices. This peppy squad of twelve girls can be seen, donned in the colors of red and green, at all of the football and basketball games. Miss Schmitz is an immense help to the girls in every way. The cheerleaders spend many hours practicing to develop their skills in performing the cheers in order to urge the knights of Glen Cove High on to victory. 68 Glen Cove Sea Cliff 0 4 Manhasset 0 1 Westbury 1 1 Garden City 0 2 Great Neck 0 1 Garden City 0 2 Manhasset 0 0 Westbury 3 0 Sea Cliff 2 1 Great Neck 0 2 § nrr rr The soccer team, due to graduation, lost nine of the regulars from last year’s team. But what they lacked in experience they made up for with that never say die spirit. Co-captain Michael Fucito and Robert Becker along with Richard Snayd were spark-plugs” on the team. Robert Becker made the all-scholastic scjuad at half-back position. Herbert Kaufman and Stan Zabielski did a fine job tending goal. For the first time in two years Glen Cove defeated Sea Cliff. The football season is upon us and once more the gallant knights of Glen Cove sally forth to battle. Winning four, tying one, and losing three games, we proved worthy adversaries for our opponents. Co-captains Joe Kleckowski and Steve Kopian were helped in no small way by the Senior players—John Lapid, Ted Hosa, Jerry Gallo, Fred Smith, Tony Bern, and Fred Wolke. Strongman tactics. Outstanding among the players and named on the Long Island All-Star Team were Jerry Gallo, Allan Hudson, and Joe Kleckowski. Coached by Ziggie Nedwick, Mr. Donald, and Mr. Butz, the whole team proved what could be done with good training plus good sportsmanship and a fighting way. The knights of Glen Cove’s Basketball Court have at last proven themselves to be the true lords of the locker room. With the shouts of the throng in the stands, Glen Cove fought and won the admiration of their loyal fans by placing themselves third in the North Shore Athletic League, Western Division. All this would not have been possible except by the deep concern and excellent training given the teams by our knights in shining armor, Mr. Duncan Donald and Mr. James Moore, teachers of basketball, respectively. Steve Kopian and Bill Mathieson accounted for three home runs with Gus Abbondondola and Frank Racanelli each adding a triple”. These five, along with Ike Hudson and Tom Poole, were Glen Cove’s main attack. This year the infield consisted of sophomores and juniors with only one veteran from last year. The team functioned smoothly showing an improvement over last year. Another improvement was the appearance, on the mound, of Bob Truskiewicz and Steve Kopian along w'ith Fred Smith, Eddie Altieri and Howard Bischoff, who shared the pitching. The main improvement, however, was in the hustle and teamwork which was a big factor in the team’s success. First roiv, left to right: J. Lapid, I. Hudson, W. Schoen, W. Matieson, F. Raccanelli, S.
