And so it was, my dear Watson, that four years ago, the Class of ’53 entered the halls of Glen Cove High. They were from all economic, social and religious groups. However, with that spirit that prevails almost exclusively with our American cousins, these differences were forgotten for a common cause with a common goal—the cause of furthering their education for the purpose of making good and useful citizens. Nor did they lose any of their individuality; on the contrary, you will find them excelling in everything from cake baking and geometry to physics and carpentering. Was their venture successful? You have only to look at their scholastic achievements, their Junior Prom, Senior Ball, Senior Play and many other activitites to realize that the answer is most assuredly in the affirmative. Now they will enter the world with a sense of achievement from their accomplishments of the past and a feeling of optimism and opportunity concerning the things to come. This in its essence, Watson, is the purpose of the American educational system. C h i 4. U Walter Ahlstedt President 23 First Avenue, L. V.
