On this page we begin a tour of our high school as seen through .the eyes of an in- coming Freshman. 1 On our tour, we'shall see that what we have learned has not at all been connned to the factual material of the textbook, but rather has covered a wide scope of problems we must face in our future life. We have learned how to work together and get along with others, how to prepare ourselves for the future and profit from the mistakes of the pastg how to think things out for ourselves and come to the correct solutiong how our forefathers created this country and how we must preserve its way of life. I Enter bere Io learn, Go fortb Io achieve. This motto, seen on the portico of our high school, is one which truly expresses our wish for every new- comer to Glen Cove High School. The pages of The Profile , like the doors of our school, stand open in welcome. Let us begin our tour . . . .....,.. . -M H Q Mn., 4,- - lf i nu.- 1141 w... The return of the owners began a hilarious sequence of events that sent the audi- ence into gales of laughter. Mr. Bentley did an excellent job of directing, and George Petchock came through in the same manner in designing the set, and working as stage manager. lid Gordon was assistant director and janet Skifter, promptor. Half a thousand voices ring out as the familiar strains of the Alma Mater are heard. Yes, the Glen Cove High School Band is one of the most colorful organizations in the school. At football games the band plays thrilling marches and popular tunes before the game and during half time. During the off-season the band prepares music for concerts, assemblies, parades, and an annual radio program on WHLI. Under the masterful direction of maestro George Scott and the student leadership of Presi- dent Sal Capozzi, this year's band has furnished a highly successful season on the football field, in the auditorium, and in Glen Cove parades. It is quite apparent to anyone attending the many sport activities of Glen Cove High that our twelve peppy cheerleaders put all spirit, effort, inspiration, and heart and soul into their task of leading the crowds in the various cheers. However, little known is the fact that these winsome misses work hard to maintain not only their acrobatic skills, but also their scholastic ability which must be kept on an 8524 par. Next year's team elected Fred Gregory as its captain. Coaches Nedwick and Lamas advocated the single wing unbalanced line formation in most of Glen Cove's attempts. In the Se- wanhaka game it proved successful. Team members learned this year the value of whole- hearted teamwork, how to take disappoint- ment, and if nothing else,-the elemental lesson of life-that one must sincerely strive to earn that which he sets as his goal. The football season was then brought to an end with the annual football dinner in january. The team did not make a .500 average because of losses inflicted in the last minute of play. One of the key set-backs of the squad was the lack of height. Larry O'Rourke was only able to play half the season and that left joe Christofano our only tall man. The rest of the team made up for this with speed and excellent ball handling. The four senior veterans--Larry O'Rourke, joe Christofano, Dick Deasy, and Stan Veroxie- along with juniors joe Sucharski, and Bob Frigeria were the mainstay of the team. From this year's varsity squad the Zephyr Club will still be around for next year's season to carry the Red and Green to a higher place in the basketball standings. The team had two fine coaches, Mr. Bongiorno and Mr. Mould, and two of the best managers in the Glen Cove history, Al Cjresser and Al Schneider. The team also appreciated the fine back- ing of the student body. In the bowling matches, a team is able to make five points. Three games are bowled at a match, with each game worth one point. Further points are given for the highest individual and highest total scores. Three points are necessary for a decision. In the last match the bowling team took hve points from the second place team to tie for the second place in the league.
