fmisiumiD The pages of the PROFILE unfold as an album, meant to evoke pleasant memories for its readers. Much in this book will be reminiscent of the first half of the 1900’s — the cars we drive, the songs we sing, the way we wear our hair. For the parents and friends of the Class of 1950, this album should bring to mind their own unforgetable school days; for underclassmen, it should preview much of the joy they can look foreward to in their own senior year; for the seniors themselves, it should be a living reminder of all that high school meant to them. We now stand at the half century mark — fifty years characterized by the most accelerated progress the world has ever seen. In this era of surging advancement, Glen Cove High School has been no exception. Modern buildings, new equipment, and improved methods are but a few of the many evidences of educational progress in our school. With these thoughts in mind, imagine the great possibilities for education in our public schools during the next half century! The school will become the all-important hub of the huge wheel of advancement. The school, whether the most up-to-date building or merely a little red school house, will be the inspiration for noble achievements yet to come. Against this background of phenomenal progress, we give you the 1950 PROFILE, a pleasant mixture of past, present and future. 4

Dsuj rrjM] w. We, the Class of 1950, humbly dedicate this issue of the Profile” to the memory of our late Superintendent, Mr. Eugene J. Gribbin, who passed away on January 10, 1950, after thirty-three years of devoted service to the Glen Cove Schools. This man of great character, determination and courage had the faculty of transmitting these qualities to those whom he taught in the classroom and coached on the playing field. The driving spirit which characterized his gridiron work, was equaled only by his supervision and leadership of our entire school system. His friendly manner and unselfish ways earned him the love and respect of all who knew him. With Mr. Gribbin’s passing, the Class of 1950 lost a beloved leader, and the world, a fine person. But his memory will linger, for in him was found all that typifies the best in Glen Cove High School. 5 1949 FOOTBALL DINNER
