uovewovd In 1849, many young people left their comfortable homes in the East and struck out for the land of opportunity, the golden land of California. One hundred years later, a new crop of miners, the Class of 1949, is to be found prospecting in the treasure laden mining camp of G. C. H. S. for golden nuggets of knowledge. The 49'ers present this annual to you with the sincere desire that you become better acquainted with their prospecting camp, the foremen and the trail blazing prospectors. Since team work and organization are necessary, the 49'ers have developed a system in their quest for gold. The first task consists of dragging the golden bits of knowledge out of the multitudinous text books. This is followed by the sifting of the panned gold in order to separate the true facts from the superfluous information. The concentrated gold is then polished off. The work requires perseverance and skill and the 49’ers pitch in with willing hearts and able minds. The gold miners will spend the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons in the mining camp but when June comes, they will select different mountain trails leading toward the golden opportunities which are to be found in our American Democracy, today.
