? tt t a r B RUTH J. RICHARDSON Senior Advisor -Sseaer-V CD tr Four Years Before the Mast In the year 1943 we launched our ship on its successful four year voyage. During our first year at sea we gained our sea legs with the aid of the officers and older members of the crew. Our first year went swiftly, and we had time to participate in only a few of the activities aboard ship. We began our second year with a bangl Since new additions to the crew had been made, we had to join in acquainting them with sea life. There were new and better activities aboard ship, and we reached the half way mark before we knew it. During the third year of our voyage we prepared ourselves for our task of aiding in commanding the ship. This was to take place sooner than we realized. Our final year at sea arrived at last. Dances were held in the ballroom, competitive games were played and the ship's log was completed. Our voyage drew to a close with a note of sadness but with many happy memories. : - 10 v
