I 9146 IQ W5 I M44 7945 D945 I 45 H4 ln less than three months we had con verted our supercilious sneers of eighth graders to the humble attrtude which was surtable to the Freshman Class of l943 We had expected ridicule and railery but teasing was increased tenfold when we found our habitats to be 208 and 209 which were previously Junior home rooms Miss Owen and Mr Kairott eased our confused young minds by asslstirg us in our class electrons From the ranks of our classmates who had Joined us from the High Street School arose Iack len ninas to assume the task of leader of our flock Alfred De Gemmis was elected vice president Evelyn Howard secretary and Carol Foley guarded and protected our meager freshman savings To make our wishes and requests known w elected Betty Foote Doris Scaglia Alfred lezouit and Perley Richardson to their posts on the Student Council This genial organization sponsored our Freshman Party which we believed to be the be t classmen had been there and we re ceived no arguments on that score On Parents Night we unrolled and shook the welcome mat to admit our proud parents Combining our efforts with those of the lofty Sophomores we produced a series of short skits and our never to be forgotten Shakespearean Hash Suddenly like a bolt from the blue we began to hear rumors of final ex ams In less than two weeks the agony was completed and we began to pre pare for our second year Ah yes happy happy vacation no one had earned three months of com plete rest as much as we had With our first yearbook tucked securely under our arm we rang down the curtain of 194344 feelmg like veteran students September 1944 found us gayly re turning to GHS eager to renew the tasks and pleasures which had ended o abruptly in our freshman year Our former class president lack len nings retiring to a happier hunting ground set the stage for electing almost a new slate of officers Frank Gondek was elected chief executive of our army Rosann Forghetti became our new sec retary Eddy Carini held the key to our treasury and Alfred De Gemmis assumed his previous role of vice president Election of our Student Council mem bers was next on the agenda and we gave this business our immediate atten tion Alfred Iezouit was re elected while David Moore Ioan Cornish and Pina Canapari filled the remaining vacant char s On March 2 we turned our thoughts to the happy aspects of our Sophomore Hop The auditorium of G H S was trans formed into a New York night club Couples applauded with delight the gay Variety Show provided by Club 47 The following week on March 9 we adopted the freshman flock as our co workers to present our program for our Freshman Sophomore Parents Night Loyal parental love was displayed in the applause which resounded for the mem the great talent possessed by our class mates The termination of our second year was soon in the offing We fairly whiz zed through the final exams which had pr sented such a handicap in our Fresh man year The year was climaxed by the thought that we would return t G H S in the year of l945 as upper class mer' With the world once more at peace we greeted our Iunior year with high hopes of a more secure future Our Fresh man home rooms were presented to us and we once more resided in 208 and 209 Our class succeeded in being the only one ir' the span of four years not to occupy the basement as our hom rooms Class elections once more found us in the process of selection and elimination in order to secure the most capable offi ers After several secretive hall con ferences we elected Edward Erickson as speaker of the Iunior House Peter Kuni kewich became vice president Ioan Cornish kept our register and Pina 'I - 4 I ' ' 'r .
