Elimizzale the negative." -That always has been good philosophy and good psychology. It is not merely a modern lyric, it is the theme-song of Life itself. Commencement is the day on which you formally commence the real business of Life, for which school has been but the "basic training." My hope is that we have not taught you to believe that the real and posi- tive things of Life are grammar, mathematics, science, and all the rest of your subject matter. Know that they are rather such things as kindness, helpfulness, good-will, sympathy, understanding, patience, humil- ity, cheerfulness, sincerity. The trouble with the world is that too many peo- ple consider these too small business to bother about. However, they are the business of the best Employer in the world, who pays the biggest wages in this world-and in the next. LEON C. LUTZ, Principal For twelve Years you have prepared yourselves for a place in society. You graduate in uncertain times. Yours is the opportunity of a post-war world, Yours is the challenge of a future of reconstruction. Upon your shoulders will rest a vital part in seeing a better world emerge from the chaos of man. Accept the challenge! Make the most of your opportunities. As you leave your Alma Mater my best wishes go with each one of youg and may health, happiness, and prosperity be yours. God bleu you. The road of life lies ahead and there will be many ruts and obstacles, but with the training received at Glassboro we feel sure that we can meet the tasks confronting us. Ours will be the job of keeping the peace. Ours will be the job of preserving democracy. We will do our best. Through participation in Student Government, discussions of cur- rent problems, good books, and wise leadership we have built a strong foundation. Words cannot express our feeling and gratitude for our Alma Mater, good-bye and thanks for everything. -ALFRED BORIS I 5 O Romeo, My Romeo PAUL ADAMS Academic Glassboro "Paul" Student Council, Pres. 4, Maroon and Gold 4g Prom committee, chairman 3, Football 4g Basketball 1, 2, 3, 4, Hi-Y 3, Pres. 4g Photography Club 2, 3, Treasurer 3g Assembly Com. 2, 3, 4. V-mai ' CLASS HISTORY On September 9th, 1941, the class of "45" started to climb the long steps through four years of high school with much enthusiasm. Our first days will be remembered despite the many mistakes we made which seemed amusing to the upperclassmen. The days passed swiftly by and we found our- selves full-fledged members of Glassboro High School. As we rapidly advanced through our first years, we elected the following ofiicers to represent us: Prerident ................. BILL BOYD Vice-Preridenl ...... ELSIE MARTINSON Secretary ........... NORMA JAGGARD Treasurer ..... VIRGINIA CLENDINING The next year began to find us Sophomores.- Did you see those Freshmen?-We 'could never have looked that green! The officers for the year were: Prerident ....... ..... G EORGE BEACH Vice-Prerident ......... JOE MCCLEARY Secretary ........... DORIS MCCLEARY Trearurer ..... VIRGINIA CLENDINING The year breezed by with the main event being our Sophomore Assembly. This was the big mo- ment when we could show the upperclassmen and the freshmen what we really could do. Finally that last day in June came and we looked forward eag- erly to the privilege of being upperclassmen. Somehow or other we had a strange feeling among us when we started the year as juniors. Naturally, it was the dignity which was accompa- nying our positions as mighty Juniors! The most appreciative event in our Junior As- sembly was given, shall we say, by the most intel- ligent and outstanding male members of our class. just think! They were the first ever to present such a beautiful fashion show in Glassboro High School. Each boy participating designed his own humorous costume. Next came junior Day! We sustained our dig- nity all through the fun and the individual cos- tumes which we wore consisted of short skirts, huge hairbows, hair curlers, pigtails, Pop's over- alls, and pegged pants. Everyone had fits of laugh- ter as they looked at the comical sights in the halls. It's admitted that the colorful bow-ties which we sold to the underclassmen were becoming. 29 After resuming our usual dignified manner we made plans for the junior-Senior Prom in May. Naomi Knecht was the junior Queen and Rose Fanfarillo was the Senior Queen. The prom was a huge success always to be remembered. There was another time for joy on our part when the Seniors left for the New York trip! We immediately assumed a feeling of "Senior Superi- ority." It felt good to practice authority over the meek underclassmen. Our Junior Class officers were: Preridem .............. ALFRED BORIS Vice-President ...... ALMA CHANNELL Secretary .......... NORMA JAGGARD Trearurer ..... VIRGINIA CLENDINING Oh! at last, that glorious feeling of being a senior. Being able to look down upon those meek, green underclassmen. Having more responsibili- ties, as we were so dignihed and so wonderful. We were now examples, but don't ask what kind -for the underclassmen. We elected the following members as our class officers: Preridelzt .............. ALFRED BORIS Vice-Preridefzt. .EUGENE ENGELBRECHT Serretary .......... NORMA 'IAGGARD Trearurer ..... VIRGINIA CLENDINING Our Senior play, entitled, "She Walked in Her Sleep," was a big success. Patiently, but eagerly, we awaited the day we would pull away for our trip to New York. We knew we would see interesting sights and enjoy ourselves to the utmost. We returned, eager to have Class Night and Commencement! Yes, it has finally arrived, the day that ievery senior looks forward to with hap- piness and some regret. We are now about to graduate. This class will go out into a world governed by wartime condi- tions. Our future is unknown, but our education will lead us as a guiding light. Although the team had seven lettermen back, almost a complete line, they used a new and different system, the "TH formation, being one of the few schools in the country to use it. Many of the boys lacked height and weight, but they made it up in their hght and spirit, and regardless of the outcome of the game, the boys always tried hard and did their best. Though our team was not a winning team this year, we, coached by Miss Dorothy Emer- son, are proud of the fact that each member gave her best in every game. Doris Krisher, our captain, really kept the ball moving in the backfield, along with Mar- garet Haines, hard-hitting Doris Cleaver and Willa Bonino, who demonstrated their skill on the forward line. Due to the lack of transportation, we played very few games. The future Varsity team will be a victorious team because they have proven their good sportsmanship. The V. team has shown this by their fighting spirit. COACH AND CAPTAIN Miss Emerson, Doris Krisher BUYS' BASKETBALL Top row, left to right-Manager C. Schubert, P. Mzmafo, B, Minor, 1. Sylzwzer. COACH AND CAPTAIN Mr, Yovicson, joseph Munafo The Boys' Varsity Basketball team, under the supervision of Coach john Yovicsin, failed to have a winning season this past year. However, there was evidence of much good playing and sportsmanship. Captain joe fZootj Munafo, along with guard Paul Adams, paced the scoring attack. Their floor work was commendable. Wayne Myers and Bill Watson, forwards, contributed to the scoring with their shooting and also with their assists. Dick Strang, ably assisted by Ber- nard Minor, held down the center position. Ward Nickerson and the rest of the team should be given credit for their persistence and fighting spirit. GIRLS' BASKETBALL Top row, l, to LSD. Clearer, E. Rnrrell.
