ACTIVITIES BASKETBALL: Opposite you have a fine picture of the Basketball Squad of 1940. These girls entered the Junior Varsity Tour- nament against other high schools in the city such as Eastern, Western, Southern, Forest Park, and Patterson Park. ln the picture they are in the fol- lowing order: Alice Dumphy, Caro- lyn Radecke, Dorothy Drury, Eloise Sell, Frances Orzewicz, Mary Reinhart, Edith Bowen, Elizabeth McCubbin, Elaine Rowan, and Isabelle Rost. At practice we had fine, large groups of girls eager to make the junior Varsity Team this year. Here you find Isabelle Rost practicing shooting baskets in the gymnasium. ARCHERY: To the girls of G. V. S., Archery is known as The Sport of Kings, and The King of Sports. G. V. S. proved her ability in this great sport when she competed in the city-wide tourna- ment which was played againsr other high schools. The Archers practiced every Tuesday and Wednesday after- noon when the weather permitted and also on Saturday mornings, when Shooting Picnics were held at Clifton Park. On this page you will find some very nice shots of our star Archers in action at Clifton Park. SOFTBALL To all at G. V. S. Softball usually holds the limelight. Every lunchtime on our playground you will see many girls diligently playing ball, most of them with the hope of making the Varsity Team. We had a fme group for Varsity Squad and their captain was Evelyn Bristow. On this page is the group picture of the Varsity Softball Squad and here are their names.
