LEAP YEAR DANCE Cupitls, with their bows and arrows, and wedding bells furnished the gay decorations as the Leap Year Dance of January, 1940, began. SPORTS AND VOLLEY BALL: Volley ball practice was aided by the great number who tried out for the team. Intramural games such as the one pictured between BS2 and PS2 were held on the school held during lunch hour. Scores of rooters watched these games, shrilling themselves hoarse as they urged their classmates on to victory. The following girls are on the Varsity Volley Ball Squad: On the first row are Marion Hla- dik, Natalie Fornaro, Helen Grim, Ruth Tarlton, Dorothy Hopp, Alice Dumphy, Sophie Green, with Ruth Goldstein, 'Lorraine Rowan, Eleanor Landon, Elsie Perry, Isahelle Rost, Elizabeth McCubbin, and Helen Walker on the second row. BOWLING: Dorothy Kowalski was the sch00l's outstanding bowler when she tied the the school record for lil-score for one game this season. Lavinia Schaefer won second place in the city-wide tournament in which girls from all high schools competed. The Varsity Bowling Team rolled against the other High School Varsity Teams. Our team consisted of Lavinia Schaefer, Dorothy Hopp, Catherine Coffin, Geraldine Vlach, Fvelyn Bris- tow, and Mary Scott. The Varsity team was victorious over the faculty in the annual contest. This year for the first time we entered both a Varsity and a Junior Varsity Team. Lavinia Schaefer held high score in the Varsity vs. Faculty game. TABLE TENNIS: The Table Tennis Team practiced in the gym in the morning before school. They tied for hfth place in the lnter-scholastic Tournament. On this team we have Dorothy Needle, La- vinia Schaefer, Rhea Ohle, and Vir- ginia Bruce. The girls of G. V. S. express their sincere thanks to their coaches, Miss Grace Willett and Miss Naomi Lantz, for their cooperation and help. THE SUN-DIAL
