S UA!! Z? CVM This year has been a xery pleasant one fi r our happy-go-lufflxy class. Our class activities. presided over by our president. Billie Ballard. were directed by Miss Sir. our class adxisor. This year has brought out many distinguishing eharaeteristies in us. Almost any Tuesday afternoon during the fifth period you might have found Peggy Fisher, Louise Ames. and Mary Louise Wvise peering at ueayorting lieastiesu under the micro- scope: and if you would have dared to poke your head into our Latin class, you would undoubtedly have heard Marilyn Rennex explaining to Miss Kessler that the sentence she had given her was the only one she eouldnit do. However. in the "IEW French class. we are all very grateful for her knowledge of lfreneh. While we are discussing classes, we almost give a recommendation to Peggy Fisher, without whose excellent coaching certain members of our geometry class would undoubtedly have received lower marks, Although we probably were not the best behaved class in the school, we really love old GLS. and just want to brighten it up a bit. This came about because we Hninesf' crowded out of our homeroom by the "B" class, had to move, bag and baggage, into the outer senior room. Prohalily the seniors did not like this, but we did. They did not seem to mind too much though. for they were very nice to us. Throughout the year we have tried in many ways to please our advisor, Miss Ressineyer. At the liulloweien party we did our best to win the first prize for our skit, "A Night at the Movies". but as luek would have it, we did not get any prize. At Christmas we did manage to distinguish ourselves by having the largest basket, to be given to the poor. of any 4-lass in the sc-hool. We tried to do our share for the Red Cross and the Soldiers' Book Drive. At the end of the year we tried to impress Miss Ressmeyer with our abilities as hostesses to the seniors at the pienic we gave in their honor. and we think that we did. ive were especially sorry to see this year's senior class leave us, because we were so unusually "close" to them. 28 we OFOIUQF Sckoof ,, 44 pu...- , 1.3, 1 1, qj 4..,J.d'3 1.-IJ 1 " LVM! f 1 .1 ,g 4-4, 1-a.,4f' 4.1 1,.1,1A,f' 'f T-47 M111- ' X' " 'Y7f:.wA.4ov.a. Though most activities have been those of student participation. our gracious president. Barbara ljanis. has occasionally' had the opportunity to present guest speakers. llach ofthe other committees has had its share in the activities of the school year. To tht- social committee goes our appreciation for the success of the Hallovveien party. which this year was unusually' enjoyable to both the girls and their friends. :Xt Christmas the Social Service r-oniniittee arranged for the annual distribution of Christ- mas baskets to the needy. All through the year the art and music committees have furnished posters and music for all occasions. 'lihe cooperation of all members of the Girl Reserxes and the able leadership of Nliss l.e-filer were responsible for this very' successful and enjoyable year. Monthly throughout this year, as last, appeared the News-Letter, full of inter- esting news and articles, providing good reading for the students and serving as a tie between the school and its graduates and loyal friends. This publication. under the supervision of Miss Smalley, was efficiently edited by Anne Harman succeeded by Betty Ann Ness. assisted by ,lane Eleanor Louis, with Betty Ann Reeder as feature editor. The appropriately seasonal covers displayed the talents of Billie Ballard and Peggy Grant. The staff room, acquired late last year. has been greatly improved in working facilities. Even the mimeograph machine has been performing more smoothly this year. All year long the News-Letter has kept us posted on all news, past, present, and future, of the school, its alumnae, and its P.T..-X. Everyone is grateful to all those girls who gave so much of their time and effort to the success of the school paper. Le CM 3'-"Q ,L!Vv, Under the direction of its most able leader, Mrs. Marks, the Girls Latin School Clee Club has proven the old saying that "music hath charmsf' During the year the Glee Club has lent an intangible beauty to a great many school functions. Among their best performances were the same sweet old Christmas carols sung in a way that nearly brought tears to the eyes of even the men present. The music composed by Franz Liszt and sung by the Glee Club provided a perfect background for the operetta, "Chonita." Orchids must be given to those excellent actress who participated, Margaret Ann Caldwell, Mary Kathryn Marti- net, Mary Robertson, and Muriel Wagner. Also rating gold stars for services rendered are Murial Wagner, president, Sue Watts, secretary, Betsy Hall and Barbara Cladding, librarians.
