MINEOLA Z6 GILMER lZ The inexperienced but hustling Buckeyes lost their season's opener to Mineola on their own mistakes. John Brotherton of Mineola opened the scoring by recovering a fumble in the end zone. Wendell Duke intercepted a pass and scored for Gilmer. Danny Craver scored for Mineola and the half ended Mineola 12, Gilmer 6. Mack Lay tied the score in the third quarter on a 3 yard plunge. Mineola scored following a fumble recovery deep in Gilmer territory. When they kicked they recovered the kick for 6 points and the game ended.
