MINEOLA Z6 GILMER lZ The inexperienced but hustling Buckeyes lost their season's opener to Mineola on their own mistakes. John Brotherton of Mineola opened the scoring by recovering a fumble in the end zone. Wendell Duke intercepted a pass and scored for Gilmer. Danny Craver scored for Mineola and the half ended Mineola 12, Gilmer 6. Mack Lay tied the score in the third quarter on a 3 yard plunge. Mineola scored following a fumble recovery deep in Gilmer territory. When they kicked they recovered the kick for 6 points and the game ended. The game was played at Gilmer in the rain. It was a defensive game and the out- standing defensive players for the Buckeye: were McBee, Demon Johnsj and Pittmon. Sands scored New London's T. D. on 1 50 yard pass play. Meister passed to Robertson to set ul the Buckeyes T. D. and then threw to Duk1 for the score. It looks impossible' but Robertson ended up with the ball to set up a T.
