GILMER 6 LINDEN Q. Coaches Truett Rattan and Dee Windsor started their third year of Gilmer High coaching by sending the Buckeyes against the Linden Tigers. Neither the Buckeyes nor the Tigers could move the ball with much consist- ency the first half. Both teams suffered from fumbles. The game 's outlook changed sudden- ly with two minutes left in the third per- iod. Russell Green, Buckeye quarter- back, lofted end John Pankkursta pass that netted 51 yards and a touchdown. From here the game grew even more exciting, but with no scoring. Thegame ended 6-0 in favor of the Buckeyes. GILMER 2 WINNSBORO O The Buckeyes ran over the Winns- boro Red Raiders witha score of 39-0. In the first period, James Duncan scored from the 6. ln the same period, Jerry Davis ran for 19 yards and a tally. ln the second quarter Kenneth Spencer scored on a lO yard scamper, while Robbie Fleet plunged for 3 and a TD. Russell Green ran 30 yards for a touchdown in the third period. Spencer again scored in the final period on a 50- yard romp. Fleet convertedtwice, and Kenneth Chancellor once, to make the final score Gilmer 39. Winnsboro O. 'T' GILMER Q MINEOLA 7 The Buckeyes routed the Mineola Yellow Jackets in the second game of the season, after spotting the Jackets 7 points on a long first-quarter drive. Aftera fumble recovery, Russell Green rolled out around end for 37 yards and atouchdown. Afewminutes later Jerry Davis cracked off tackle for 13 yards and the Buckeye's second score. A pass from Greento Yocom put the ball on the Jacket 2. From here James Wright Lee smoked over left guard for the TD. Minutes later, Green romped Z7 yards to pay dirt.
