-10 10 Dear Seniors of '52-53: CONGRATULATIONS! You have molded the foundation for a good and useful citizen. Your future accomplishments will depend upon your attitude toward your fellowman, your willingness to work, your ambition, and your self-confidence. In the future you will need a goal to attain and a passionate attachment for your labors. Men and women have fol- lowed many guiding lights. They have been inspired by love and fame. They have pursued power, wealth, fame, and holiness. Something must beckon you, or nothing will be done. Life is a great game. You must play it diligently. There are lessons in defeat as well as in success. Make your own decisions. Blame your- self for your errors, adversities, and defeats. Take credit for your success. BE WISE AND DARING! The deepest regret of people is for those times when they played safe, remembering that old adage about it being better to be safe than sorry, and did not do what they knew in their hearts and minds they should have done. Too often they played safe only to re- gret this caution. Always, they have suffered more from the challenges ignored than the dares accepted. They have been enriched by risking peace and comfort, and impoverished by every decision to let well enough alone, stay in their place and let the storm blow over. When they have been bored, it has always been a punishment for their indifference to life. That boredom has come from within, and not imposed upon them by others. When they have been grieved most sorely, they should have known that at the seat of their sorrow was regret for acts they had not done, for words not spoken, or gestures restrained. Therefore, there can be no meaning in that old adage better be safe than sorry. Too often, safety itself is the seat of sorrow. Boys and girls should not run wild, heedlessly and recklessly risking their life and character at the price of the happiness of those who love them, because the only source for Peace of Mind is from a God govemed conscience. But, wise daring is the source of lasting happiness, and no person whose life has been richly adventurous ever comes to a stale and whining old age.
