What was true in the first edition in 1937 is still true in 1959. '4W'e have not tried desperately to make this book perfect . . . for life at G.C.H.S. is not always perfect. Nor have we striven to portray the passing of but a single year in print and picture . . . for G.C.H.S. is not to be measured in terms of years. '4We have endeavored to present G.C.H.S. as we should always like to re- member it and as we Want everyone to know it. Our eternal watchword has been stark, utter simplicity, and after all, what is the true G.C.H.S. but simplicity . . . rugged, indelible. lt is the tie that binds those who have gone before with those who are yet to come." We present this yearbook as a medium in that great force. C.C.H.S. is greatly thrilled that this year, 1959, marks the the 150th anniversary of our county. May we congratulate Giles County and the city of Pulaski upon Sesqui-centennial Week, July llth-18th. We sincerely hope that this celebra- tion has created understanding and universal good will. May true traditional ideas remain and false conceptions vanish in the light of celebration and in the dawning of a new day for the "Spirit of Giles Countyf' May county and city lie united in one general effort for the educational advantages of their children. i X ASH-S 1 TW Sol? sm mx va Staff ffl- luy Hull, Phyllis Fox, Mary Sue iuwurrl, 'l'ummy Wiggins, Kogvr Jinmn, juhnny Duvix LINDA PRINDLE FAYE BASS Business Managers LINDA HUNTER LINDA WILKES MARILYN CHRISTOPHER Twisfs PM' RRTHEL1, JERRY DAVENPORT lfnpv and Art Editors CARY MEYER lIHARl.l-IS mw'1,l-:R Srwrfs Efliwrs MAC M4-KAY l'lmlngraplwr.s Mr. L. They believe in wisdom as revealed in the pages of a printed bookg in lessons taught not so much by precept as by ex- ample. All in all, our teachers are responsible for the destiny of America, because the pupils come under their influence. Thank God for teachers who give di- rection to the whole life of the people. Future Teachers of America was formed in 1937 in honor of Horace Mann, father of the American public school system. There are three ideas upon which the Future Teachers of America is built. The future belongs to youth and is full of hope, opportunity, and promise for those who prepare themselves for it. Teachers are the builders of civilization. Next to the parents who pass on the unending stream of life comes the teacher who preserves, enriches and transmits the ideal and purpose of the race. America is the home of the Future and the Teacher. lt is a magnificent country filled with purpose and promise. It gives a higher place to teachers than an th y o er country. Sixteen G.C.H.S. students shared these ideals under the sponsorship of Mrs. Floyd Smith.
