F THE SENIOR CLASS DEDICATES . . . . . someone who has done so much for so many, whether it be prodding sluggish minds into an awareness of culture, or helping us to understand ourselves and therefore others. It was for her that many of us worked all night on our research papers, and although our writing wasn't always "topdrawer" we did learn a lot. As our class advisor of three years, she gave us her time and energy. Her originality made our class and its projects stand out as both different and special. And though we often seem like ungrateful "rotten kidsf' We hope this dedication will prove that we really do appreciate . . . Mrs. Janice Quint. il wh - '-" vsia l fix ,srs,,i . THE 1973 YEARBOOK TO . . . . . . someone who is truly a dedicated ecologist in her own right, and inspired us to rake an active interest in preserving the environment and its resources. At a time when most people are content merely to express concem over the state our world is in, she made us aware of the importance of doing something now. We have her energy and perseverance to thank for the pond, Environmental Improvement Day, and the fish movement study. For these things and her efforts as a biology teacher we are grateful . . . but while we learned a lot of biology, we also learned that once she has her mind made up you can't stop . . . The player and coaches Ward, Heyser, Lilley and Tyler are very proud of their defensive record. The team had 5 shut-outs, which led to the best defensive record since 1943. Due to this fact, the Player of the Year was awarded to the 1973 Seniors players as a group, an unprecidented event in the history of football at Gettysburg. The outstanding senior lettermen consisted of Bob Banks, Steve Courson, Andy Crouse, Tom Crouse, Dick Davies, Rick Emerson, Steve Feaga, Joe Fleming, Don Gantz, Tom Hess, Jody MacAvoy, Bruce MacPherson, Rusty Maitland, Mike Presley, Jerry Price, Harry Scott, Dick Sweigart, Lenny Stanton, and the iunior lettermen John DeHaas, Skip Dudash, Larry Green, Brian Lovett, Ken Shafer and Rod Simpson, along with the other members of the team. Steve Courson was picked for the Blue Chipper Award, along with an Honorable mention to the BIG 33 team. Receiving honorable mentions for the Central Penn League were Lenny Stanton, Andy Crouse, and Steve Feaga. Lenny Stanton and Jody MacAvoy finish the season 8th and 10th, respectably, in total yards nishing in the Central Penn League. Both gained 3rd and 8th place in scoring in the B.M.L. This squad included Seniors: Pat Collins fcaptainj, y Cindy Kitzmiller fco-captainj, and Cindy Hofeg juniors: Marsha Karr, Colleen Shaffer, Rita Frealing, and Kim McCarthy, and Sophomores: Patty Karr and Deb Fetter. The squad had a rather slow start due to those long, hot summer practices but after constant cries of "Speed it UP" and "Hofe, get in your placen, the girls turned out to be a great squad. Almost the entire football season was spent waiting for the new uniforms, especially after the splattering mud at the Susquenita game. The new uniforms arrived by wrestling season, however, and all the girls will remember Sherman, especially Colleen, "XVarriors are sooo big, Canners are sooo small, hey!! and "Oh no, it's 'chicken wing, again!" An 8 and 2 record developed a new feeling for the sport in our school. This year 9 lettermen were lead by Kurt Dagenhart and Bob Sharrah as the team's captains. Next year the team hopes to put together another great season with Dick Boehner as the star Harrier. Biglerville will long remember this year's loss, and Camp Hill will feel it next year. 149 50 Basketball An impressive Vlarrior basketball team rolled up their 1972-1975 season as a respected powerhouse. Occasionally the team had its bad breaks and slow starts, but it seemed they were destined to win anyway. The Vlarriors were led by Senior Tom Crouse, juniors Brian Lovett and Dick Boehner, and Sophomore Tom Kuehl and the reserves, who saw a lot of action this year, were right behind them. Although a young team, the Warriors played well together and hold a lot of promise for the years to come especially after the impressive record of the ,Iayvee team. E Wrestling This year's wrestling team went out to the mats the first match for a victory after three years of 30 straight losses. Their first match ended in a tie, which thrilled the fans - the Warriors were on their way! The 3rd game against Shippensburg was home. The bleachers were filled with fans as they've never been before. At the end of the match, Gettysburg won 34-14. A great victory! The fans ran from the bleachers and mobbed the wrestlers. Wrestling had made it at last at Gettysburg. The seniors for this years great wrestling team were Harry Scott, Dave Hartman, Roger Bushey, Brad Smith, Tom Hess, who holds an undefeated record, and Don Gantz, our heavyweight wrestler who always came through when we needed him most. It took just spirit as it did ability to set the Grapplers on their winning streak, and that had to be due to the coaches Meisenhelter and Spatz. First Row: M. Angel, S. Purdy, S. Steinour, F. Miller. 161 Track and Field With spring came track season. Under head Coach Tom Crist, assisted by Coach Leo Ward, the Gettysburg Warriors had a respectable season, with the help of lettermen Seniors: Kurt Dagenhart, Brad Smith, jerry Price, Tom Crouse, Mark Laidlow, and Andy Crouse. juniors: Dick Boehner, jack Harbaugh, and Brian Lovett. These cindermen were aided by outstanding underclassmen, which helped to prove the Warriors are stiff competitors in the B.M.L. The seniors have left the team, but with them they take their memories of the long practices, the cries of 'iSlow down Boehner," the great vegetable soup at the Shippensburg meet, the yelling at the baseball players, and last but not least, the cry of "On your mark, get set, eat it!" -. 1-5. 0 x"',f X . 2611 N- E 35 y S 162 I s ! Baseball After a disappointing 1972 season, the baseball team has high hopes for the 1973 season, with eleven lettermen returning. They are Seniors: Rick Emerson - 3rd baseg Pitcher Dan Herrickg first baseman, jim Lewisg second baseman, Rusty Maitlandg Catcher Mike Mummertg Shortstop jay Thompson. Juniors: outfielder Tom Albertsg outfielder john DeHaasg outfielder Steve Mooreg first baseman Rod Simpson. Sophomores: Catcher Brent Lutz. A 12-game schedule will be played including two games outside of the Adams County Baseball League. Those two games are with Delone. I remember that hike we took to the reservoir and the wine we brought hidden in your pack how beautiful it was. And then once we talked the whole night throughg you helped me so much Qwe weren't even tiredj. Getting back from vacations even weekends we had to catch up but soon there will be so much unshared so much to explain. Will we ever have time will I ever know your feelings your mind as well again?
